Color me stupid. I want to copy the address book in Outlook which is ON MY PC into Outlook Express which is ON MY LAPTOP. Different computers. I did follow the link for copying Outlook to Outlook Express which was on the page you linked to. I followed all the steps in copying the Outlook address book till I got to the bottom where it appears both programs have to be on the same machine for these instructions to work. Is there no way to copy it to a different computer?

Yes it is possible, though you won't get all the information fields, more like the basics.
Since MS in their infinite wisdom, chose to not have compatible databases/backup files, what you need to use is the .csv(Comma Separated Values) import/export option.
I am @work on a unix machine so this is a "memory jog" at the moment, will give better response @home if needed.
Under File choose Export, look for the CSV option. Save off as a filename(there may be other options required here, don't remember)
(you can look at this file if you want using Excel, but don't recommend saving it off)
Get that file to your laptop.
In laptop Address Book, save your current OE AB by File-Export-Address book(WAB). give it a filename(this is just cya in case)
In Address Book, choose File-Import-(other address book I think). And give it the .csv filename. This will add all contacts names at the top level of your Address Book.
If this makes no sense, I will "fill it in" when I get home.
edit: I see the MS site gives a different path. You should just be able to write that file to cd or usb flash drive for transport.

Martha , as you well know , I'm a computer retard , but while stumbling blindly around on my high tech pile of plastic and thingos I discovered this little trick , not that I wanted to find it . It might only work with windows ME or only on my highly tuned , uniquely programmed computer , but here goes . Wait until someone that actually knows what they are doing gives the go ahead before trying it .
If i hit ''reply all '' on an email it puts all the addresses that are on the email into my address book , which gives me something to do when I'm looking for a mate's [ of which I have about 7 ] address among hundreds of people I've never heard of . It even does this if I delete the email without sending it .
So , with my highly tuned machine , what I could do [ in theory ] is get an email from someone which they sent to their entire list of addresses [ including me ] , then click on ''reply all '' , cancel the email and have the addresses all added to my address book . Maybe you could do something similar ? IE , from your PC , send one of those warm , fuzzy chain letter things that threatens plague and pestilence if they don't pass it on in 5 minutes to 20 other poor souls to everyone on your address list , including your OE address on your laptop . Then on your Laptop you could go through the ''reply all '' , cancel routine . NB , this won't import all that important info you have hidden in ''personal '' beside old boyfriends addresses like phone numbers , vital dimensions , etc . :) .
WARNING *** Do NOT try this without getting further advice ! Many of my computer tips also result in stuff [ I think computer wizards call it data ] being sent to a black hole in cyberspace , never to be seen again .
I hope I have been of assistance ,
