Mozilla is gearing up to launch a large-scale marketing drive when Firefox 1.5 is released.

Christopher Beard, the vice-president of products at Mozilla, said on Monday that there is a "strong likelihood" that Firefox 1.5, the next major version of the open source browser, will be released on Nov. 29.

Yay! Although Safari still ROCKS. If it weren't for Konquerer (the open source software Safari is based on) I doubt Mozilla would be up to Firefox 1.5 already. Good to see innovation returning to the browser market.

The beta for 1.5 mac is out now and very stable, fixes many bugs, incompatabilities etc. However, it does not work for AVChat here at Carecure. So far its the only incompatable site I've found.

Actually, Firefox does run AV Webchat on CC for me. In fact, I find it more stable than Safari. AV Webchat is the one thing I use that consistently crashes both Safari and Firefox, but Safari definitely crashes more often. If only AV Webchat weren't so damn addictive...

I have noticed one bug with CC and/or Firefox. Even after I log on, the dialogue box asking me to log on remains. If I post something, Firefox correctly realises that I'm logged on. But on the homepage, it keeps asking me to log on.

I prefer Safari over Firefox for three reasons/features. Safari uses the Aqua interface throughout - even drop-menus in webpages are aquafied. Sure, this is a trivial difference, but all Mac owners know it's the little things that Apple pays attention to that make all the difference. Secondly, try double-clicking on any word in Safari to select it and control-clicking (right-clicking) on it. You can look the word up in OS X's dictionary! Finally, if you type any text in Safari such as in a CC post or gmail/hotmail/etc. message, you get 'type-as-you-go' spell-check, ala Microsoft Office.

AVChat worked fine for me with firefox till I "upgraded" to the beta of 1.5. I also installed a java upgrade from Apple recently- so it's possible that OSX rather than Firefox is at fault.

i'm a chronic beta user- and occaisionally pay an unexpected price.

I like Safari (and basically all other Mac programs) better than Firefox. Unfortunately, I have a PC here at school to work with all the engineering programs. :-(

I've picked up Firefox 1.5 for OS/2. Seems to work okay.

Yay! I was running Firefox on my computer before my SCI, but after I got my computer set up here at my parents house I couldn't get it to work at all. I grudgingly switched back to Internet Explorer, but it started to get all buggy and crashed constantly after opening several windows. When I saw this thread I downloaded the new Firefox, and it's working great so far. I love the tabbed browsing, I can open the list of new posts here and open a dozen or so new threads in tabs. Thanks for the heads up, Yay!

On my powerbook G4, Firefox 1.5 is significantly faster than Safari, particularly on the CareCure Site. There are also many skins and various tools that are available for the Firefox that is not available for the Safari. Firefox is able to handle more web sites than Safari. I suspect that new versions of Safari will be optimized for the Intel Macs rather than for the older powerbooks. For these reasons, I have been migrating away from Safari to Firefox. Wise.

FireFox has some great extensions. i have the Verizon minutes extension installed it on my parents computers also since we are on a family plan, it displays the minutes used so there is not a problem with going over the plan minutes also like the script blocker , blocks a lot of crap from being displayed when surfing.
yahoo has come out with a bunch of widgets for the PC
