View Full Version : IPOD video content out there?
I just picked up a new Video IPOD and the person who will be receiving the gift is a big fan of "Sex and the City". Where can I download some episodes?
I'm trying Kazaa but not getting too much... and slow transfers too.
Ideas?
Mike: I am using the iPod and it will be at least 8 months before I start using the iPod with Video. I went to the iTunes Music Store today and I can see that they are a little light when it comes to content. It appears that at the present time they only carry or sell five shows now, but a whole new business has been created on iTunes, and I expect more shows in the future. I did take a look at Free iPod Movies (http://www.freeipodmovies.org/mediawiki-1.5.0/index.php?title=Main_Page) and I could not find "Sex and the City."
If you're using a Mac, I don't think you have to worry about spyware and viruses while downloading movies from Kazaa. You may want to try downloading one episode of "Lost," or "Desperate Housewives" from iTunes to see how long it takes compared to Kazaa. I would also suggest taking a look at Handbrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/) for Mac users.
PC users who want to put their DVD movies onto a Video iPod should take a look at Shrinkto5 (http://shrinkto5.com/) but keep in mind that it has to be the right format. Make sure that the DVD has been converted to MPEG-4 and then you may want to try using Videora iPod converter (http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/). Last time I checked both of these programs were free but Videora iPod converter does sell one of its versions.
IPTV (http://www.g4tv.com/screensavers/features/50763/Ten_Minutes_with_Frank_Rose.html) is a burgeoning technology but at the present time I don't see a way that you can subscribe to "Sex and the City" (http://www.hbo.com/city/?ntrack_para1=leftnav_category0_show10).

TiVo to Provide New Capability for Quick and Easy Transfer of Viewer's Favorite TV Shows to iPod or PSP
ALVISO, CA — NOV 21, 2005 — TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ: TIVO ), creator of and a leader in television services for digital video recorders, today announced an enhancement to its current TiVoToGo feature that will allow TiVo subscribers to easily transfer recorded television programming to their Apple iPod or PSP devices.
The enhancement will include exclusive capabilities such as TiVo auto-sync that will allow subscribers to choose if they want new recordings of their favorite programs easily transferred to their portable devices via their PC. Every morning the devices can be loaded with new programs recorded the night before. Link (http://www.tivo.com/cms_static/press_66.html)
if you need more information then do a Google search for Handbrake (http://howto.diveintomark.org/ipod-dvd-ripping-guide/). Go to the Handbrake forums. It is my understanding that somebody made a special version of Handbrake specifically for iPods.
Other options to put content onto your Video iPod.
ImgBurn (http://mrbass.org/dvdburn/) software (which is free and has taken the place of DVDDecrypter) to rip the DVD to your hard drive. I have not tried this software but I have used DVDDecrypter without any problems. ShrinkTo5 (http://www.shrinkto5.com/) (mentioned above) can also be used to rip the DVD to your hard drive (you’ll need to install the DeCSS plug-in) and then use Xilisoft Video Converter (http://www.xilisoft.jp/en/video-converter.html) which costs $35 but they do offer a free trial. When this is completed and you will be able to transfer the files into iTunes and then into your Video iPod.
