ScanSoft to Acquire Nuance
On May 9, ScanSoft announced a definitive agreement to acquire Nuance Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: NUAN), whereby ScanSoft will purchase all of the outstanding common stock of Nuance, merging the two organizations into a single company with the expertise and resources required to satisfy the increasing demand for powerful speech solutions. The acquisition is expected to close in September 2005, pending stockholder and regulatory approvals. ScanSoft has announced that it has changed its name to Nuance Communications, Inc., presenting a strong, clear and unified position for the company in the markets it serves. The company believes its new, technology-independent name better represents the comprehensive nature of its solutions. Nuance will continue to leverage the recognition the ScanSoft name has earned in the market by using it as the name for its family of imaging solutions.
"Our new name symbolizes an important point in the company’s evolution as a leading provider of speech and imaging solutions that create compelling customer experiences," said Paul Ricci, chairman and CEO of Nuance. "While our name and branding have changed, the facets of the organization that have made the company a trusted provider, partner and employer are unwavering.
