Naturopathic pain and spinal cord injury treatment by usage of stem cells.

Wise and others.
In a previous thread http://carecure.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45203 (http://carecure.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45203) I did see you (Dr. Wise) listed the various reasons why naturopathic pain was or could be associated with SCI.There are several theories. One theory is that neuropathic pain results from abnormal sprouting and connection of axons in the spinal cord. Another theory is that it is a result of loss of inhibitory neurons in the spinal cord. A third theory is that it is a result of abnormal neurotransmitter balance in the spinal cord. In my opinion, probably some aspects of each of these mechanisms probably contribute to neuropathic pain. A fourth theory is that neuropathic pain emanates from neurons in the spinal cord that have been deafferented and express a particular enzyme called PKC (phosphokinase) gamma. Mice that have had their PKC gamma gene knocked out do not develop neuropathic pain. It turns out that these neurons are located in a particular layer of the dorsal gray matter of the spinal cord that receives sensory signals, and these cells fire high-frequency bursts of action potentials that may lead to pain.In the thread you also listed the types of naturopathic pain.Neuropathic pain in spinal cord injury is currently classified into four types. The first and most common type is pain that is localized to areas below the injury level. The second type is pain that radiate down the limbs and is far below the injury site. The third is neuropathic pain that is present above the injury site, often in the form of increased sensitivity to touch (allodynia) or temperature. The fourth is visceral neuropathic pain.I have some naturopathic pain and from this reading I believe I have the most common type – located to the areas just below the injury level, and only on the right side of my upper body. For this I take Neurontin and that drug works fine for me.

My question is; by this reading I figure that the naturopathic pain due to SCI is because of damage to neurons and axons etc. inside the spinal cord (as described above). Due to that, will it also be correct to assume that a stem cell treatment for the SCI also will be a good treatment for naturopathic pain. Is it correct to assume that a future treatment of SCI not only will deal with bowel & bladder, sexual issues, sensation and motor functions but also reduce or even get rid of this pain? I believe there is a logic here, but I want to here your and others opinion and explanations on how this could take place. Thanks, Leif
