Wow. A 300gb drive for $89.99 after rebate. SATA drive (http://www.gotapex.com/l/?55J5ONSJ) Ultra ATA/133 drive (http://www.gotapex.com/l/?D2RXWXFT)

It's not Firewire, and I know bigger drives will be coming out... but it's mighty tempting right now.

The offer's good through the end of the month, so I will have some time to think about it. I'm sure I will cave. :D

Steven,

This summer, I bought the Maxtor One-Touch 300 Gb for about $278 at CostCo. It has both firewire and USB, is Mac and PC compatible. Although it is slower (i.e. 5200 rpm) compared to the earlier Maxtor 7200 rpm drives, reviews of the drive says that it runs cooler and is more reliable. I use it to backup my powerbook drive. It is reasonablly fast with an average throughput of 15-20 Mb/sec during conventional backup. My powerbook drive is 75 Gb and so I partitioned the Maxtor drive into two parts, a 75 Gb partition for a mirror copy of my drive that I can use to restore my powerbook drive. I use a program called Superduper to make the mirror copy of my hard drive to the first partition. I use the other 220+ Gb partition to do incremental backup of my applications, documents, data, and music with a program called Deja Vu; this copies any new files on my powerbook to the backup partition. I like the firewire because it means that I can daisy-chain as many of these together as I want.

Wise.

I've got 250gb & 300gb SATA Maxtors in my G5, & a 200gb one-touch firewire drive I bought a while ago. They're great disks, as far as I'm concerned... meaning I've never had one fail or give me any problems under pretty heavy use. $90 is a darn good price for 300gb. I'd almost be inclined to pick up another for extra backups at that price. Go for it Steven.

Nice deal i was just about to get the same model maxtor diamondmax 10 250gb drives... for $99 a piece too. These are the 300GB models and cheaper by $10 bills. These are total kick ass for performance with the NCQ (Native Command Queuing).

Building a new computer right now.

You guys are a bunch of enablers. :p

I'll be ordering one during the week. Still debating on whether or not I want to get the USB enclosure.

Wise, what kind of music do you listen to? You should briefly post (http://carecure.org/forum/showthread.php?t=52774) your list of favorites.
