Need a good one in the Baton Rouge/New Orleans area? I mean really good in the area of emerging problems in an AB who is losing function and all signs point to the cord.

Are you looking for a doctor, or have one to recommend? I live in B/R and my doctor is Dr.Anthony Ioppolo and am very impressed with him.

Looking for one. What impresses you about this doc? I know neurosurgeons aren't normally known for bedside manner but good skills? Long term in the field? New and has a lot of newer ideas on treatment? Conservative versus "let's go cut" attitude? Yea, I ask a lot of questions of my own docs also. :-) And B/R is closer for this friend.

Hey Sue,
Dr. Glen Anderson with the Neuromedical Center did my actual surgery. He seemed to be an excellent surgeon. Due to personal reasons I cannot go back to the Neuromedical group. I had follow up appointments with Dr. Ioppolo who was once with that group but branched off on his own. I would guess he is in his late 50's. I was very impressed with his bedside mannerisms. Very easy to talk to with no rush to get you in and out. I would definately talk with him before making your decision.

Thanks tbDeaux!
I did some checking earlier on Dr Ioppolo and he does have a good record. Thanks. I'll keep the other name as stand by for my friend. And in that state I can sure understand the personal reasons...about 40 or 50 on the law books so far.

Sue, please be sure to check very thouroughly. My wife was involved in a workplace accident and is being treated by Dr.Horace Mitchell (also of Baton Rouge). The insurer required my wife to see Dr. Ioppolo for a second opinion when Dr.Mitchell requested some imaging tests. Dr. Ioppolo stated that my wife was at "maximum medical improvement" and that her only option was pain management through medication. We opted to see a completely independent surgeon (in Hammond). We took my wife's complete medical record (including all films) to Dr. Oppenheimmer. He stated the exact same thing that my wife's treating physician has been stating for the last six monthsor so - that her condition is treatable following more testing. Also, there was an article in the Baton Rouge paper this week that the American Association of Neurological Surgeons is attempting to censure Dr. Ioppolo. Their professional conduct committee found that Dr. Ioppolo “demonstrated a lack of adequate subject matter knowledge and acted as an advocate for the plaintiff and the plaintiff attorney rather than as an unbiased witness. In doing so, he violated the AANS’ Expert Witness Guidelines.” ( http://www.2theadvocate.com/news/3013756.html ). I do not trust Dr. Ioppolo, and I would strongly recommend that you be careful should you elect to see him. Based on his written statements regarding my wife and the written statements from two other neurosurgeons, I believe that Dr. Ioppolo is, at a minimum, dishonest for misrepresenting my wife's prognosis. Or he is incompetent if he did not notice that my wife needs to have a myelogram and a discogram done.
