View Full Version : Just great, no AC in the house!

To make a long story short, the central AC is down. It works, but the drainage pipe became clogged up and partially flooded the hall and my closet last night. Nobody can come out to fix it until Monday either.

It's going to get into the upper 90's today unless that 30% chance of rain comes through. I can't go stay at a friend or relative's house because they are inaccessible. I can't go stay at a hotel because they are all booked from people fleeing the hurricane.

I've been up all night working on it, and I know exactly what the problem is, I even explained it to the repair guy. He just said to put a pan under it, but that's not going to work because where it's blocked is up at the top of the pipe and water is running down the inside of the unit. It ruined the filter and I'm supprised it didn't short out all the electrical crap.

What pisses me off the most is I could fix it myself if I wasn't in the fucking chair. http://www.pbase.com/jchaney/image/40888137.jpg

I'm going to go take a nap now, and I'll probably go hang out in the frozen food section of the grocery store later.

Jim since you know how to fix, why don't you have a friend come to do it under your direction. People like to be nice, you could always trade services-especially since you are a good photographer. Deb

Jim, do you happen to have a fish-tape around? If you can get at the bottom of the tube, you could run the tape up and ram the plug from below maybe.

No a/c is not nice this time of year.

Had that prob last yr. Took a can of compressed air for cleaning the pc stuff and poked the lil tube in the drain, packed a rag around it and blew back thru it!
Took a cpl times but got enough crap out of it to get by till I got it cleaned right.
No AC sucks

The stoppage is a little more complicated than that. It had stopped up before in the lower pipe a few years ago while we were out of town. We came home to a flooded hallway and ruined carpet. The first thing I tried was to run a snake down there and it came out clean. Just to be sure I let the drain run into a container for a few on/off cycles until I noticed where the water was coming from. It's leaking right where the pvc drain pipe connects to the AC. I pulled the pipe off, and the pipe is clean. I have to do a push up to see up there, and I could see this slimey stuff inside the unit where the pipe connects. I got as much of it out by feel as I could. I tried to instruct my sister what to do, but that didn't work. :(

Hey Jim, you and I are having the same problem. I got home from work Fri and no A/C. A guy came out Sat and thought he'd fixed it by bypassing the time delay fuse (we had a wicked thunderstorm Fri afternoon). Last night it quit again. I'm typing this from a Holiday Inn near our house - didn't think we could stand a whole day without the A/C. Supposedly they're going to come out again tomorrow and fix the A/C right this time! We're lucky Hurricane Dennis passed us by or we'd be like you. Good luck!! Mike

Sounds like a good time to go to a couple movies and spend some time at your local indoor mall or casino, Jim!
