I tried the Lifestand and the Permobil stander about one year ago when I was considering getting a new wheelchair. It was going to be my everyday chair. For standing, the lifestand seem to be slightly better to me simply because you could move around while in the standing position. It was also smaller and not quite as bulky. I decided that both of these chairs were too bulky to use every day with all of the extra equipment that had to be added for the standing feature. They would be great if you have a second chair, but not for me every day. I ended up getting a permobil chair without the standing feature, and a barrier free ceiling lift making it much easier to transfer to an Easystand5000. That has worked out well for me.

hey, my bf is probably going to be getting a redman--the chair looks pretty nice--but I see you are from illinois--we are in chicago--the co said that there is no one one else in the area that has one of these chairs, the company is in arizona, and so getting parts for some of these chairs when stuf breaks might take awhile. But the chairs seem excellent--have you gone to standing therapy? how long did it take? they told us that he would have to go to therapy and see if he could stand, then order the chair, wait for it to come, and then do a bunch more therapy--a real pain to get to the place so much and very costly chair and therapy even with insurance, and more parts to break--I wonder if it is worth it??

I just helped a friend of mine get a motorized wheelchair she wanted the Redman Chair very much because my friend has MS and can't stand at all so wanted a chair that could help her stand so she could do things on her own. This process has taking forever trying to get it covered by her insurance company and because Redman is out of AZ so they were very quick in getting a rep to the MA area to have her try the chair we also needed to get an approval from my friends ins. co. Finally after months and months a Redman Rep dropped her chair off and she loved the chair but when she stands in the chair she can't reach her knobs on her stove or anything on he counter she has to be strapped in because they are afraid she might fall over and because she has to be strapped can't move herself forward the chair is great but make sure you have tried it first. So she had a rep from permobile come in there standing chair didn't work for the same reason but they have a chair that doesn't go into a standing position and it works great for her. But I do agree there is DEFINATLEY alot of work in getting these chair. Still doesn't have a chair thank god for her manual chair but is getting hard on her. So I am hoping but the middle of Sept she will have her chair. Thanks for listening.

Do you mean that the chair leans her back so much that she cannot reach in front of her farther than her feet?

How does the cusion stay in place? Also, what happens if you have a spasm. When you sit back down again, you might be sitting awkwardly

I have a Levo manual standing chair (http://www.planetmobility.com/store/wheelchairs/manual/levo-stup/compact-easy-lce/index.html).
It's nice, but it's not something you can really use everyday. I've used it probably a half dozen times in four or five years. The front end sticks out a lot compared to my compact TiLite (it has probably a 75 degree front end angle), and it's pretty wide. It's not something you can breakdown and throw in your car, so you couldn't easily take it to work or anything. About the only time I've used it was to show my parents when I got it and then show my girlfriend how tall I was (she didn't know me pre-SCI). Neat invention? Yes. Practical? Eh, not really.
