I would like to inform everyone of a new facility that is set to begin accepting new participants March 1st called Sci-Step. Please feel free to contact us for more information @ micheleb@spinalinjury.net. The website should be launched in the next few days! Sci-Step was created to be the next step in the recovery process after an individual is discharged from a hospital or rehab center and not in place of. We are also currently looking for referral facilities and sponsors.

What Is Sci-Step?

Sci-Step is a private facility focused on acquiring and implementing state-of-the-art exercise modalities to assist neuromuscular recovery for individuals with spinal cord injuries. We believe that not only is recovery possible but life without the use of a wheelchair can be obtained. The team of professionals at
Sci-Step are committed to challenging participants to recover to their fullest potential.

Sci-Step continually researches the industry to bring the best recovery modalities to our facility. Individuals participating in our program will focus extensively on:
•Neuromuscular Memory
•Muscle Mass Recovery and Regeneration
•Weight Bearing Exercises
•Cardiovascular Conditioning
•Aquatic Therapy
•Acupuncture and Massage Therapy

Who can benefit from the Sci-Step Recovery Program?
The Sci-Step Recovery Program was designed for an individual who has suffered a spinal cord injury in the past 2 years and has regained some feeling or movement below the point of injury. They must want to recover and have the desire, focus and work ethic to do so.

How is Sci-Step different than the rehabilitation I did at the hospital?
Sci-Step was created to be the next step in your recovery process. At the point of discharge it is the hope of all rehabilitation professionals that each patient will have the most extensive neuromuscular recovery possible. Unfortunately, the current state of medical insurance in the United States handicaps major medical facilities from offering the cost intensive, individualized programs that are now seen as the key to recovery. The result is that patients leave their rehabilitation hospital with unfulfilled potential and limited exposure to the most advanced, state-of-the-art modalities needed for recovery.

Our findings indicate that while clinical research is being conducted at facilities that work with spinal cord injuries across the country, Sci-Step is one of only two private facilities dedicated to active neuromuscular recovery for individuals with spinal cord injuries.

Sci-Step promises to treat each participant as a person and not a patient. We understand the importance of being hands on and focusing on the individual. While at Sci-Step each participant is paired with a recovery team. This team will learn what combination of recovery modalities work best and tailor the program based on the individualized needs of the participant instead of following a general protocol.

How long is Sci-Step's recovery program?
Currently our model program consists of 450 hours of hard work spread over a 95 day schedule. Because recovery means something different to everyone, each person will recover to their fullest potential at their own pace. Our goal is to be there with every step of the way, helping each participant to maximize their potential.
What we know for sure is that the window for recovery is decreased with every passing month, so if a person is not satisfied with the results they have seen so far, Sci-Step is the answer.
