I want to start an exercise program and want to
try something areobic and something besides lifting
weights. I haven't seen anything in regular fitness
magazines and stuff. I am looking for books, videos,
or something online that focuses on wheelchair users.
I want to get in shape but I can't do it just lifting
weights. Please give me some ideas. Thanks

If you're looking for cardiovascular fitness then pedaling a bike with your legs is far superior than weight lifting. I'm very happy with it.

I have ordered a 'Rolling Road' a short of tredmill for wheelchair users. It has rollers which means you can go for a push on it. It has a computer which tells you how far you've gone/fast you're going etc.

It hasn't arrived yet but I'll let you know how I get on.

Do you have this in America?

Is there a website or catalog that you ordered your "Rolling Road" from?

WHEELING YOUR CHAIR ISNT A GOOD CARDIO WORKOUT, NOT CONSISTENT

THE STATIONARY HANDCYCLES AND, OR VITA GLIDE WORK BEST TO GET YOUR HEART RATE UP AND KEEP IT UP

How "shoulder" friendly would the vita glide be? Retorical question: Why are these things so darn expensive?!!!!

I like the vita glide because it loos like it can help a little with the "love handles". Is it good for the abs?

very shoulder friendly, even more so than a stationary bike

Hi. I saw a different picture in an advertisement in this month's New Mobility - Oh my gosh it's so huge! The advertisement stated that it was for gyms and rehab centers..... Does anyone know if there is one that is smaller that would fit in an apartment? It looks too big to fit anywhere in my home. I'm seriously considering this if only I had room for it...... maybe the dining room table could go away! heh heh heh

I guess you could say you're a "captive audience". My son, Lucas is SCI C5-C6 with ASIA C7. Everything is so expensive. Just to pee and poop. I couldn't believe the cost of a potty chair that he can wheel into the shower himself is over $700. Condoms and catheters aren't that bad, but when you consider how many you need. Shipes!

Is the personal one the $950 one? http://www.allegromedical.com/exercise_fitness/rowers/vitaglide/vitaglide.P211243

Thanks for your tips Fuen.... I just want to be sure if I plunk down a grand on something that it's exactly the right one, especially since I can't see it or touch it for myself.
