Doctors have confirmed that Argentina's Carlos Villar will never walk again and faces the rest of his life in a wheelchair.
Villar's parents were yesterday flying to Britain from South America to be with their son, who suffered serious back injuries when he crashed during Berwick's Premier League match against Newport on Saturday.
Surgeons will attempt to protect the movement he does have in his arms and neck, but they have told him he will never recover movement from his waist down.
Berwick promoter Peter Waite said: "We are all devastated at this news, especially as Carlos loved to live life to the full. He has been one of the most popular Bandits for many years."
