Benefit for man paralysed in attack
BY SINEAD MCGOVERN

A night out to celebrate his 36th birthday ended in David Davoran being left paralysed from the neck down.

The father of two from Birmingham, who has extensive roots in Loughrea, has been confined to a wheelchair since the unprovoked attack in a nightclub last February.

While his wife Sue was pregnant with their second child, he spent several months rehabilitating at a specialist spinal injuries clinic in the UK. His baby has since been born, but he has yet to even hold her.

A form of treatment known as Biofeedback which involves physical therapy and electric stimulation is his only hope to regain movement in his paralysed muscles. But the treatment is only available in a specialist clinic in Miami and will cost up to £20,000 sterling.

His dad Pat Davoran is originally from Loughrea and is a brother of well-known local sports promoter and enthusiast Murt Davoran. His mother, Mary Flaherty, is from the Circular Road area of Galway.

His wide family circle in the Galway area are appealing to people to support a fundraising night for his Biofeedback treatment. A benefit fund dance will be held at Kinsella's in Loughrea on Friday November 21 featuring music by Matt Keane and Kevin Coyne. Tickets are € 5 and are available from the following members of the fundraising committee: Jimmy Cooney, Christina Cassidy, Peggy Loughlin, Murt Davoran, James Maher, Tommy Fox, Martin Davoran, and Tim Loughlin.
