A Clinton Police officer passed on an important message of using seatbelts in 'graphic' detail to some Jackson State students Tuesday morning.

In 1994, Clinton Officer Creston Berch suffered a severe brain and spinal cord injury in a car wreck while on duty. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Sergent Berch spoke to some JSU students as part of Methodist Rehabilitation center's "think first for teens" program.

Berch says he grateful to Methodist Rehab for getting him back on his feet. "That's why I do what I'm doing now with them to give them insight of what it's like to go through a catatrophic injury and still be able to do what you want to do, to learn how to not make that mistake from the first."

Students who listened to Berch will encourage their peers to buckle up.
