AFTER two separate accidents in the snow on Victorian Alps yesterday within as many hours two men, both 23, remain in a stable condition in the Royal Alfred Hospital.
A Rural Ambulance spokesman said the men were involved in separate accidents yesterday on Mt Hotham and Falls Creek.
He said about 11am yesterday a snowboarder, 23, suffered skull and facial injuries after a fall and was flown to the Alfred Hospital.
"At 12.19pm another male, 23, who was skiing was injured at Falls Creek suffering spinal injuries and was also flown to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne," he said.
An Alfred Hospital spokeswoman said the skier injured at Mt Hotham remained in a critical but stable condition.
She said the man injured at Falls Creek was in a stable condition.
Mt Hotham ski patrol duty manager Mr Larry Doyle said the snowboarder fell in the snow in the Blue Ribbon area and was taken to the mountains medical centre.
He said he was not aware whether the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
"When people are on the mountain they need to ski within their ability and stay in control," Mr Doyle said.
"People need to be cautious and ski slowly."
Falls Creek Resort Management chief executive officer Mr Ian Grant said considering the number of people on the slopes the injury rate was minimal.
He said ski patrol was in place to take care of accidents on the slopes and doctors were on call at Mt Beauty.
"We get lots of people with hurt wrists and knees and we had a young girl flown to the Royal Childrens Hospital last week," Mr Grant said.
"But we have all the necessary measures in place and when something happens we dont muck around."
