Christopher Reeve to Keynote the Heidi Vanarnem Foundation's "Heidi's Dream Ball" -- October 4, 2003
BIRMINGHAM, MI -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 06/17/2003 -- The Heidi VanArnem Foundation (HVAF), dedicated to the cure for paralysis, is pleased to announce the attendance and participation of Christopher Reeve, Chairman of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation (CRPF) at the 2003 "Heidi's Dream Ball" on Saturday, October 4, 2003 at the Ritz Carlton in Dearborn, Michigan.

The annual "Dream Ball" is not only the HVAF's premiere fund raising event but is an opportunity to remember and honor HVAF's founder, Heidi VanArnem, who was a leading state and national advocate for people with disabilities. While Heidi passed away in November of 2001, it is through her foundation that the vision she had crafted will be carried on: the vision to change the world for people with disabilities. This evening provides an opportunity to remember, recognize and celebrate outstanding individuals who have made extraordinary differences to improve the quality of life for the disability community. Past recipients include Alan W. Frank, President & CEO, Post-Newsweek Stations, Detroit; John Engler, former Governor, State of Michigan; Mark T. Hogan, GM Group Vice President, Advanced Vehicle Development; Tony Filippis Sr., Founder, Wright & Filippis, Inc.

"Heidi is an extraordinary example of how one person can make an impact," said Reeve. "I had the opportunity to meet Heidi and witness her strength, will and courage. I am thrilled to give my support to Heidi's Foundation (HVAF) and am extremely grateful for those who are committed to this mission."

All monies raised by the HVAF are given to chosen individuals/facilities to be used strictly in the research towards finding a cure for paralysis. For the second year in a row, HVAF has selected CRPF to be the beneficiary of funds raised from this year's "Dream Ball." Last year, CRPF's Board Director David R. Landrey accepted a check for $130,000.00 on behalf of the Foundation. These monies were specifically designated to two world-renowned neuroscientists who are members of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation Research Consortium on Spinal Cord Injury. To date, the HVAF has raised and donated over $1 million for spinal cord research. The HVAF and the CRPF strives to broaden the awareness and visibility of this important cause. Together, we will one day rise to a cure.

Founded in 1992, the Heidi VanArnem Foundation (HVAF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the cure of paralysis through organizing socially conscious fund-raising events. Proceeds from these events are given to existing research facilities active in developing a cure of paralysis resulting from spinal cord injury.
