Metrony

I tried lyrica three weeks ago. I was really amazed at the beginning. Instant effekt, felt almost no pain and had no concentration or memory problems. I felt that med was worth to try for a while. Three days after starting taking this i lost the bladder-feeling and had to stop. I went back to neurontin and my bladder works as fine as before. Then i read more info about this med. Loosing bladder-feeling is a rare side-effect but it happened to me.

Sleipner,

Thanks for posting this. I have been watching for stuff on pregabalin for a while. It is said to inhibit current in small neurons but to actually enhance it in large neurons. So your report of lessened pain is interesting.

Lyrica. Pretty melodious sounding drug. I wonder what kind of music it makes in the kidney, since it is affecting your bladder.

Just a word to the wise. A few years ago, before anyone happened to notice my pain was neuoropathic, my doctor loaded me up on NSAID's, lots of them, all around the clock. It damaged my kidneys and did not help the pain.

Ever since I have been cautious about the wild goose chase for pain relief. I know that doctors try to help us, and try one thing after another, but sometimes these drugs which are stepchildren that didn't make the grade for anticonvulsant therapy, or for depression, get prescribed for the pain patient, just because everyone is trying so hard to find something.

I recommend you ask your pharmacist for the package insert for ANY new drug and see if kidney damage is a side effect. If it is, work with your doctor carefully before taking very much of it. I wish someone had given me this advice.

Do you have to pay for it or is it on the blue prescription?

While it was approved by the FDA for neuropathic pain associated with diabetes and shingles, it was also classified as a controlled substance. It will now be evaluated by the Drug Enforcement Agency, a process that could take months. More. (http://www.smartmoney.com/bn/ON/index.cfm?story=ON-20041231-000427-1128)
