For Dan Defilippo, it started with a car crash. In May of last year, he and 4 friends were headed home from a night out when their car spun out on a rain-slick road in Trenton, and slammed into a tree. Dan was the only survivor. Just as he neared recovery, a crippling pain set in, putting every nerve on edge. Even stepping on a poppy seed was excruciating.

Sigh, another one of these breathless reports where you have read two-thirds of the way through the report before they tell you what the treatment is. It is ketamine. Please note that ketamine has been used for many years as a treatment for cancer pain. It is a glutamate receptor blocker but also has significant side-effects. In some people, low oral doses are helpful in reducing neuropathic pain with acceptable side-effects. I have reviewed this many times as an emerging treatment for neuropathic pain.
