Is there somebody that can give an explination and possibly relief for nerve pain. My pain feels like this: if you were to go outside in sub zero weather and ride a vibrating rolling machine in your skivies for 10 hour or until you feel the lower half of your boby vibrating even though the machine has stopped, make sure you are at the point of frost bite then you can go inside and jump in the shower turn the water temp to hot and spray from the chest down. It is a tingeling, burning sensation 24/7. How come the part of my body that is paralized is the part that hurts the worst? This is from my chest to my toes. I have a pain pump installed no relief ( long story if you need the details we probably will have to talk do to my typing skills and speed) I take 60milg of morphine 3x a day, 700milg of nuronton 6x a day, 30milg of baclafine 4x a day, 40 milg of paxil 1x aday. I still have a lot of pain and this combonation works somewhat, if I miss a dose I can berely move, one: because pain level goes to a 9 to 9.5 on the pain scale, two: the spasms get pretty intense. My doctor acknoledges the pain is there but he says there is nothing more that he can do. Which I do not think is acceptable answer.

EJ~

The nerve pain is probably what drives my daughter up the wall fastest..(that and wetting accidents!). She is a T11/T12 complete para, and she's taking 900 mg of neurontin 3xdaily, plus some elavil (not sure of dosage amount). Wednesday she's going back to the pain clinic for the first of three epidural blocks to hopefully ease the pain. They inject a cortisone called Triamcinolone to hopefully calm down the irritated nerves. She's very hopeful that this might provide some relief. I'll post again and let you know. They say you need three injections: she's getting one a week for the next three weeks.

Managing pain with meds is almost an art. There are many combinations, and what works for one person may not work as well for someone else. I agree with you: your doc may not be able to do anything more, but that doesn't mean there's nothing more to be done! You deserve to have your pain managed to an acceptable level; keep looking!

ej what is your neurontin total daily level?
you are taking 700mg 6 times a day?, is that 4200 a day?
whatever the dosage i agree the answer you received from the doctor is unacceptable,
maybe its worthwhile to travel to find a beter pain clinic
