View Full Version : Cruel to mice

Man is mimicking nature in causing nerve injury to mice. It is appalling, brutal, and unthinkable, since it duplicates our own nerve injury pain to a degree, but at least no one claims the pain is "in the mice's heads".

Shaffler has found an H1 antagonist, known as ReN1869, which is used to stop nerve pain. The mice are pretreated with capsaicin to hypersensitize the C fibers of the skin and then laser bursts are used to hurt the mice. ReN 1869 is a potent reducer of such pain.

Since CP is also thought to be mediated through C fibers, we have to wonder if ReN 1869 will help us.

I include these technical reports to reinforce that researchers are NOT dead in the water, they are dead in the WALLET. No money to do clinical follow up.

Support H.R. 1863, the Pain Initiative, by writing to your elected federal legislators.

dejerine,
We have some SCI dogs that can prove neuropathic pain is not in the heads of sufferers.

Neurontin without insurance is very expensive
to use for dosing a dog. But a generic equivalent may make it more available.

We have a boy now trying to chew off his feet..and his penis too. He has to spend his time paralyzed in a most uncomfortable E-collar. The meds. available just aren't helping..tried all the alternatives too.

He was a wonderful dog before his injury and
surgery and now the trying painful episodes.
Now he bites air if it touches him.

No this is not in his head. Dog's don't think
this way.

There are so many naturally injured animals
the scientists could work on..of course not all suffer this severely.

But I feel the parents of the ones that do would gladly permit experiments to be done
on their animals. At least they wouldn't be
euthanized without contributing to their beloved humans.
