I've been having some major pain in and around the tailbone area. Would Neurotin help this?? My Doc said it is where most of the spinal cord nerves come out of the spine.

Hi, posting under rocko's name, g/f. He tried neurontin and it made him feel to strange, he couldn't take it. The only thing that kinda helps is vicodine and ultram. He has the same pain in his tailbone and pain in his lower back.Do you stay in your chair alot???He drives all day and still stays in his chair very late everyday. I like to see him slow down for a few weeks to see if it helps, but i know there's no way he would.

Hi Rocko,

Neurontin, as the name suggests, is usually prescribed for neuropathic pain. If you can alter the pain just by changing your activity, its probably not going to have any effect for that type of pain. Whereas the opiods that you describe (vicodin) will. Many times when someone injures their spine, there is other damage besides just the exact site (T10, L5, etc), and this includes the Coccyx (tailbone). Because the tailbone is being stressed while being seated, it can cause severe pain at that point, but might also feedback on the original SCI injury, and make it feel as if they have pain in other areas, in other words, it takes on the symptoms of neuropathic pain. If changes in Rocko's activity ("slowing down") relieves the pain (even a little bit), then he should ask his GP to refer him to a orthopedic surgeon, who can take a look at the coccyx (pronounced cok-siks) and find out if there is any damage there, there may NOT be, and in that case, he needs to see a good pain management specialist to manage the opiod meds to give him the best relief possible, as taking vicodin and ultram together is probably not helpful. Best of luck, sounds like Rocko's a pretty active guy, and if he still WANTS to be that active, its a good sign. When the pain gets so bad that this level of activity just isn't possible, he should definity seek the help I stated above, otherwise the general purpose opiods should help, the neurontin won't.
