My doctor just upped my dosage from 20mg to 40mg & he told me not to break the pills in half. I was wondering why (forgot to ask him) & if it was alright to do it.

Oxycontin is a long acting medication. It is time released and by breaking it you will get a immediate affect like taking roxycodone. It wouldn't help to to break it in half.

Ray,please do not break the tabs in half because the medication is ment to go into your system over time and by breaking them could release the oxy at one time and could cause a overdose.
