ANS Introduces GenesisXP - the New Standard in Spinal Cord Stimulation Technology
New Implantable Pulse Generator Provides the Most Battery Capacity Available
For Optimal Pain Relief
PLANO, Texas, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Advanced Neuromodulation Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:ANSI) (ANS) today announced the launch of GenesisXP, the most technologically advanced implantable pulse generator on the market. ANS' breakthrough device combines the advanced capabilities and features of its predecessor, Genesis, with the extra performance of an extended battery life.

"As the technology leader in the neurostimulation market, ANS is dedicated to the development of cutting-edge pain management solutions that better serve the needs of patients and physicians," said ANS President and Chief Executive Officer Chris Chavez. "We believe GenesisXP will represent the standard in spinal cord stimulation technology as the longest lasting, most advanced implantable pulse generator on the market."
GenesisXP has a substantially increased battery capacity, positioning it as the longest lasting implantable pulse generator available for pain relief. This represents a significant benefit to patients, as it may reduce the frequency of surgical battery changes. In addition, the GenesisXP system can be configured to specifically address the patient's individual needs and ANS' programming technology provides greater flexibility for patients to independently manage their pain.
"These advanced capabilities certainly will benefit our patients, giving them more autonomy and control over their pain," said John C. Oakley, M.D. "After using the new GenesisXP in our clinic, we have found it's easy to implant and offers exceptional programming versatility. We also anticipate greater longevity with its extended battery capacity."
"Having had an older model spinal cord stimulator implanted several years ago, I was somewhat frustrated with the limited programmability," said Dr. Oakley's patient. "The replacement of my old system with ANS' GenesisXP has given me the ability to vary my stimulation depending on my changing pain patterns."
About chronic pain
Chronic pain affects an estimated 50 million Americans, of whom more than half are partially or totally disabled. At present, approximately $100 billion are spent in the U.S. on the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain, which represents the most common indication for neurostimulation therapy. The 106th U.S. Congress has declared this the "Decade of Pain Control and Research," helping to bring neurostimulation to the forefront as a viable and effective option in the treatment of chronic pain.
About Genesis Neurostimulators
Genesis and GenesisXP assist patients in the management of chronic intractable pain, including pain of the trunk and/or limbs, unilateral or bilateral pain associated with failed back surgery syndrome and intractable lower back and leg pain. These versatile systems allow independent control of up to eight electrodes for broad stimulation coverage and pain relief. ANS' multi-programming technologies -- Constant Current, MultiStim(R) and PC- Stim(R) -- allow electrodes to be programmed for optimum stimulation control.
About Advanced Neuromodulation Systems (ANS)
Advanced Neuromodulation Systems, Inc. designs, develops, manufactures and markets implantable systems used to manage chronic intractable pain and other disorders of the central nervous system. ANS is a technology leader in the growing neuromodulation market, which is expected to reach the billion-dollar mark by the end of 2005.
