I was just wondering if anyone here has tried dextromethorphan for their nerve pain? I went to my doctor yesterday and she wants me to try it. She prescribed 30 mg 3 times a day. I did read some previous posts that said it can work well in combination with neurontin which I take too. Just curious if anyone has tried it and what they thought of it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will help with my pain! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

I haven't tried it but please keep us updated on the results. I've seen it quite a bit in the literature.

There was an article, maybe here, dated August 19th, that said a company named AVANIR had patented Neurodex, an orally administered combination of dextromethorphan (DM) and an enzyme inhibitor that sustains levels of DM on a proposed twelve-hour dosing schedule. Phase II/III studies were in progress at that time. The problem with DM seems to have been with being able to give therapeutic doses since it is rapidly metabolized. This new drug combination seems to get around that problem.

Do you know if your doctor is going to use Neurodex or straight DM?

My doctor prescribed straight DM not Neurodex. Since the DM has to be compounded by a pharmacist, I won't be able to start taking it until Tuesday. She wants me to take 30mg 3 times a day. I'll keep you posted with my results!!
