View Full Version : Gabitril
I have severe central nerve pain, burning in both legs and thighs. My doctor suggested that I try Gabitril instead of the Neurontin I have been using. She noted that the Gabitril was just as effective, cost one third the price and had less side effects.
Has anyone used this drug and what were the results?

It gave me hallucinations, just as neurontin did.

My doctor had heard a patient with phantom limb pain had been greatly helped by Gabitril. I went off Neurontin (ramped down the correct way) and as soon as I started Gabitril, I was bouncing off the walls, couldn't sleep and had splotches on my chest. I called the pharmacy and as I myself suspected, was told it sounded like I was allergic to Gabitril. As soon as I popped a Benedryl, I calmed down and slept like a baby. I'm back on 2400mg Neurontin now-no ill effects, except weight gain, I think. I'm going to ask my new pain dr if I can try 1200mg instead. I think Neurontin helps the stabbing, needlelike pain, but I'm not sure about the burning. As for Gabitril, give it a try. We are all different.
It is very similar to Neurontin (gabapentin):
