It is my understanding that Clonazepam is used to treat drug addicts in treatment centers to help deal with the side effects of withdrawals. I have also heard that the side effects and the withdrawals are worse when trying to get off the Clonazepam than Cocaine. I have also heard that you should only be on this medication for no longer than 8 months.

One of my doctors started me on this medication over 9 years ago and he said it was like a long lasting Valium. I went from 4 milligrams to 2 milligrams over a 3-week period and I had very difficult withdrawals. I am wondering if anyone knows any more about this medication and if I try to get off the remaining 2 milligrams, should I substitute Valium instead of Clonazepam? I think it would be a lot easier to wean off of Valium than this medication.
