Dr. Young,

I wanted to post on this forum my experiece with the burning pain in my legs and feet. For the past 29 years there has been the same pattern of having the burning pain every other day. Have you ever encountered this pattern before? After I go to sleep, the pain is gone for a full day, but returns the next day, consistantly for the past 29 years. The pain gets pretty unbearable, but I try to block it out and have never taken medication for the pain. Is there any medical explaination why I have this same every other day pattern? Anyone else have this kind of experience?

LJ W, Several people have told me that they have burning pain every other day. I was astounded when I first heard of this phenomenon and think that it provides some very interesting and important clues about the cause of the pain. Unfortunately, I know of no hormonal cycle that has a 48-hour cycle. It does not fit with the diurnal rhythm which is a 24-hour cycle. Does it match with your bowel routine patterns? Wise.

Dr.Young,
I'm not sure I understand what you mean if the burning matches with my bowel routine. I really don't have a bowel routine, I just seem to be a regular 3 day pattern there, and I don't use any laxative or anything. They just move and I get the feeling just fine when I need to do my thing. The burning just has its regular every other day pattern and sometimes a nap will even help, maybe making whatever it is think its a new day. The nights that I am burning are almost unbearable until I fall to sleep and even if I awkake an hour later the pain has subsided quite a bit. Hydrocodone doesn't really put a dent in the pain, just makes you feel better about having it. I only have taken it when we've had some around the house for toothaches, etc.
