How long does it take?

I take 600 mg of Neurontin every day. Today the nuerogenic pain is horrific - the "10" everyone knows. I called my neuroligist and was told that I can take up to 3500mg of Neurontin and to start popping them. I immediately took 600mg, pain continued for an hour, took another 600mg, another hour/600mg, and so on, and on. I'm now 8 hours down range and have taken 2400mg of neurontin and the pain is still there. I certainly am sleepy but the pain keeps me awake. How long does it take for neurontin to take effect?

BTW, staying away from Vicodin for fear of constipation.

We generally increase the dose in 300 mg. increments every 3-5 days, so would have you take 2400mg. total tomorrow and for the next 2 days, then increase to 2700mg. for 3 days, then 3000mg. for 3 days, etc. You have to get your blood level up and maintain it. It is not a "prn" med.
