Dan Buchanan, of the Sunridge area south of Carson City, jokes with crew members Friday as the crew unhooks his hang glider from it rolling launch pad. Buchanan, who is paraplegic after a hang gliding accident in 1981, will perform Saturday at the Tahoe Air Fest.
DETAILS:
The 15th annual Tahoe Air Fest at the Lake Tahoe Airport is scheduled today. The South Lake Tahoe show includes Dan Buchanan's hang-gliding, other aerial stunts, sky-diving demonstrations, a simulated helicopter rescue operation and military and general aviation displays. A pancake breakfast begins at 8 a.m., and the show is from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This year's theme is a salute to the military. Admission is free. Parking is $5. Free shuttle service will be provided from the South Y Transit Center to the airport. Further information: 530-541-4082.
In 1981, hang-glider Dan Buchanan crash landed on Carson City's C Hill during bad weather.
As the top of the aircraft slammed into his helmet, he said he immediately knew he had suffered a crippling injury.
