Anyone have experience using one from a w/c? My daughter bought one for me several years ago, and now that I'm retired, I'd like to try it. However, it is too long. I'd like to have it adapted. Any ideas? Also, where does someone in a w/c begin? I live near the beach, but there's no reasonable device that I can use independently. The thought of being a treasure hunter really appeals to me, but I don't know how or where to start.-

A lot of metal detectors have a telescoping shaft. You might see about disassembling it and cutting the tubes a bit to shorten them up. This isn't likely to be any sort of trouble if the wire that runs from the coil at the bottom to the box at the top is wrapped around the outside of it.

How about trying local parks around playgrounds and basketball courts? Grassy areas alongside of parking places are good. Especially along oneway streets where people park on the left side of the street.

Maybe the couch is a good place to try too? http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

I've already discovered my neighbor's sprinkler system. Has anyone out there actually used a metal detector from a w/c. I see that there are many metal detecting clubs, but I never met anyone with a disability who does it.
