I know it's a ridiculous amount of time before the 1st game, down right stupid, ice show...gimmee a break.....Why with all the playoff predictions why would they book the pond at playoff time..
They still could have played tonight....Obviously another US network deal Bettman bowed down to....
...but geez..I can't believe you guys aren't here gloating and making bold statements about winning Lord Stanley. You know, actually thinking the Ducklits are good enough to beat the Sens lol...lol..:D

As a Ducks Hockey fan... I'm not that bold to say Ducks in any #, but if they do win Sir Stanley, Hmmmmmmm :mega: Since the Ducks have the most Canadians in the league, it's all good. Sir Stanley gets to spread his love all around :mega:
Bragging is for sore winners:(

Watching the Ducks against the Nucks, I couldn't see anybody knocking off Anaheim. But Detroit exposed some weaknesses on the team. At this point, I'd say Ottawa is favoured.

 Watching the Ducks against the Nucks, I couldn't see anybody knocking off Anaheim. But Detroit exposed some weaknesses on the team..
Huh  anybody knocking them off? They didn't look that good. If we were healthy, a full complement of NHL players, not Moose farmhands & hadn't gone through the guelling 7 (actually 9 game) series with Dallas, we could have been playing the Sens tonight.
After all the talk of the big bad ducks, I wasn't that impressed, 4 of the 5 games could have gone either way. They usually won on flukes and brain-farts.Jiggy was great. Game 5, we were just running on fumes, and finally died.
I actually thought the Sharks were better. I still think if the Ducks played the Sharks the stinky fish would have beat them, as the Wings should have beat them also, they lucked out there, another brain-fart win.
Although I must say, I'm looking forward to watching the Penner, Perry, Getzlaf line become the most dominate line in the league for years to come. Those guys are awesome:applaud:
Anywho, Lets hope for a wicked series..."finally, I might ad  "

If the Sens can stretch it to 7 games I'll be there again. No tix for game 5.

Actually, it's nice to see the Cup come West for a change. The West has always been the more powerful conference, but the playoff marathon to represent the West has always taken its toll. And good on Brian Burke. He landed in a situation with an established goaltender. His only weakness was finding goaltenders.
One more game and it's BC Lion season! :applaud:

From insidehockey.com
by James Murphy
Let this humble scribe come right out and say "I was wrong!" For the past two months, I have been pumping up the Senators as a team that finally found grit, heart and character. Yeah that’s right, I jumped right on that Senators bandwagon and believed that this Ottawa team finally had the right mix of skill and mental toughness, of desire and determination... and with all those characteristics, I saw them as the team to beat.
So, let me be the first to say "I was blind." I was suckered into the “Red Zone” and more importantly, as I have been for the previous two Finals, cheering for the Cup to be hoisted in a city and country that appreciates that this is the hardest trophy to win and the best playoff tournament in sports. Now, I regret cheering for and enjoying what I now see as (with the exception of a few players), a team of underachieving players... and at times, one that is capable of very cowardly acts, exemplified by their captain, Daniel Alfredsson. It’s no wonder Canada didn’t get behind this team as they did the Flames and Oilers.
What kind of captain does what Alfredsson did last night, when he (and there is no debate here, he had plenty of options where to rifle that puck), blasted a shot at the always-classy Ducks captain, Scott Niedermayer? Then, as if that wasn’t bad enough, as a scrum ensued around the "Krusty the Clown" look-alike, Alfredsson sucker-punched Travis Moen, who was being held back by a linesman. And somehow, he escaped all of this without a single penalty? [See video below]
Well, not only was this a classless move by a guy who had appeared to finally earn his stripes as an elite player and solid captain, but this also fortified the Ducks. Of course, many wondered if Anaheim would rally around the absence of the suspended Chris Pronger as they did in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals against Detroit. After a rough first period, the Ducks completely outplayed the Senators in the second... and after the Alfredsson incident, they managed to step things up even further.
J.S. Giguere had kept them in the game during the first period and the Ducks paid him back in full, just as they did in Game 5 of the Detroit series. They stayed disciplined, channeled their anger at Alfredsson into their play on the ice. And they all but ended this series in the third period, when Dustin Penner tallied the game-winning goal by burying a beautiful feed from Teemu Selanne.
Now, if the league really wanted to continue setting an example with the zero tolerance stance they’ve taken towards head-hunting and intent-to-injure by suspending Pronger twice in the playoffs, then the press box should be as close as Alfredsson gets to the ice for Game 5! Could that puck not have wound up injuring Niedermayer? Was there not intent to hurt? Did Alfredsson not let frustration get the best of him?
Unfortunately, the bet here is he will be on the ice for the last game of this series, because as they are with everything lately, the NHL will continue to be inconsistent with their interpretation of what requires punishment. That is a shame, but really it will be a shame for Alfredsson if and when the Ducks exact retribution. And furthermore, should the Ducks choose to retaliate during Game 5, it will be yet another black eye for a league that has had so many shiners lately, it’s just about ready to suffer a broken orbital bone!
Oh by the way, I just received a press release from the Senators... The aforementioned “Red Zone,” an area outside Scotiabank Place typically set-up for Senators fans to congregate and watch the game, will be closed for Game 5. They must be afraid that fans wearing No. 11 will start launching pucks at security guards when the Senators lose.

Aw shucks, Vermette just screwed up his penalty shot. Ottawa is sunk. Oh well, there is always next year. The Canucks will go all the way in 2008.
In the meantime, I'll watch FC Toronto kick that ball around. I grew up with soccer anyway.
Yep, monkey girl, I am a northern "hill billie." I live in Prince George. Walking ..er rolling distance from the Fraser River. But my house is high enough, I won't get flooded out. But some other people around here will "get wet feet." Same thing for some friends of mine in Houston (just west of here) The Bulkley River goes over its banks almost every spring and this winter we had almost 6 feet of snow there. Not in PG though. I only had 1.5 feet where I live. Banana belt here.:D

MG,
Don't make me go back and quote your numerous "love" posts for Bert. A nice addition for the Ducks and obviously fits right in with Burke's style of play. With Selanne and Nieds probably retiring it opened up some cap space. May have spent a bit too much...
Ducks are bigger, meaner... Go ahead, say something bad. See what happens...

Yeah 4 yrs ago before he he turned into Flotuzzi...all he did since his one big year (contract year) is give the puck away, take stupid penalties..always while we were on the PP (every friken time) Float around the ice like he was lost. The guy was a cancer on the bench and in the room.
I really hope he doesn't screw the chemistry with your team. He's a miserable SOB,thinks he should get preferential treatment, won't play defensively. He was like a -500 or something.
Have fun hearing the boobirds, you get so sick of hearing it. I fiqure Burkey screwed up on this one, he's got so much bad baggage, I think Burkey let his emotions into this deal. The worst thing a GM can do. :zombie:
Don't get me wrong, I wish him well for your guys sake..but it will take a miracle.
PS: Here's my last post about Flotuzzi:
"What a great trade, see ya later Bert, hopefully he'll do well in Florida. We had to part ways for everyones sake. Thank god, I couldn't take another season of yelling at him. Having once being a wicked power forward & my fav player to a underperforming, miserable overpaid floater."
"For Sale: 5ft Bertuzzi cardboard cut-out (gatorade stint)
: Bert Bobbleheads, fridge magnets (jersey, mini bobble)
Bert Pictures, T-shirts, pucks, ceramic bears, pins..."
LOL...I still have have everything somewhere, except the t-shirt (I used it for a rag) You Quackers want to buy them..cheap.....:D :p Or maybe I'll wait till when he becomes a superstar..lol...lol...:p

Hockey elite expected at Ferguson funeral
Chris Thompson, CanWest News Service
Published: Tuesday, July 17, 2007
WINDSOR, Ont. - A memorial service scheduled Saturday for the late John Ferguson Sr. is likely to attract a who's who of the hockey world to pay tribute to the Montreal Canadiens tough guy who made the Windsor area his home.
Ferguson, 68, the father of Toronto Maple Leafs general manager John Ferguson Jr., succumbed to prostate cancer Saturday.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday morning.
There will be no private service, Ferguson's daughter Christina Ruhl said Monday, but they are anticipating a strong turnout from the hockey fraternity for the Saturday memorial.
"My brother (John Jr.) has been receiving quite a few phone calls," said Ruhl.
"A lot of people have said they want to come and it's just a question of getting flights and everything. We put it later in the week to give people time to get here."
Ed Agnew, a friend of Ferguson and fellow member of the Circle of Seven fundraising group, said he expects a large number of former Canadiens teammates and others from the hockey world to make the trip.
After retiring from playing, Ferguson also worked for the Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators and San Jose Sharks.
John Jr. issued a statement through the Toronto Maple Leafs website.
"On behalf of my entire family, I'd like to thank the many friends, professional colleagues, medical personnel, and hockey fans who have supported us through this difficult time," said Ferguson.
"Your expressions of sympathy have helped bring comfort to us. Your kind words have helped strengthen us. My father battled cancer with the same spirit in which he played the game of hockey. He showed courage, strength, class and tremendous character. He had deep appreciation for the support he'd received from so many people beginning with his initial diagnosis. My father's spirit will continue to live on in all of us whose lives he touched."
Agnew said the Circle of Seven has already set up an endowment fund in Ferguson's name that will help worthy young athletes, musicians or artists.
The group has already deposited $10,000 in the fund, which was set up prior to Ferguson's death.
On the Windsor Star website, dozens of friends and fans e-mailed their condolences, including Scott Campbell, a defenceman with the Winnipeg Jets in the early 1980s when Ferguson was the club's general manager.
"Having played for this terrific guy in Winnipeg, it is a sad day for anyone that was lucky enough to meet Fergie," Campbell wrote from his home in Collingwood, Ont.
"I really enjoyed playing for him but our relationship didn't end there. Over the years I have asked John to write letters of reference and make phone calls for me, as well as asking him for advice. They were all taken care of right away, done with thoughtfulness and thoroughness."
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman also released a statement regarding Ferguson's death.
"There was no more passionate competitor, as a player, as a coach or as an executive, than John Ferguson," Bettman said.
"He was tough, he wanted the best for his teams, his teammates and his players, and his country, and would stop at nothing to try to help them win. His fight against cancer was every bit as fierce as his competitive drive on and off the ice. The league has lost a great hockey man. We extend our deepest sympathies to the entire Ferguson family."

Brad Isbister's one-timer late in the first period that caught goaltender Roberto Luongo up high. Luongo lay face-down on the ice for more than a minute, and was escorted to the dressing room by trainer Mike Burnstein. Luongo did not return. He got a shot in the throat or collar bone and they're monitoring it. The other day Cowan and Linden took Lui out in the crease too! Enough already!:zombie:
Sami Salo also left the game after jamming his wrist and will get x-rays, while Trevor Linden left the game with a pulled groin. :zombie: Geez......

Don't even know how it went...geez...I was hoping for a review, which ports etc, there's 3 different routes now, I would like to know which stops are best.
Oh well maybe he's just bummed about the ducklings start, if they're still doing this at 20 games in there's a problem, but now, no biggie, they'll be back in form. Nucks aren't that great right now either, too many injuries, pre-season was a wash, no real set lines, not in sync yet, it's like pre-season now. Flyers put forward Boulerice on waivers
The Philadelphia Flyers placed suspended forward Jesse Boulerice (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/player_bio.asp?player_id=58) on waivers Monday.
Boulerice is serving a 25-game suspension for cross-checking Vancouver Canucks centre Ryan Kesler (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/player_bio.asp?player_id=3513) in the head last Wednesday.
"I reacted in a bad way - the wrong way," Boulerice said following the game. "I wanted to give him a hit back."
"We're by no means condoning what happened," Flyers coach John Stevens said after the team announced the suspension. "He's going to have to stand up and pay the price."
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren echoed the same sentiment.

Weight might pop in a few trying to prove he's not washed up, but that'll come to an end, then free agency...so McDonald for nothing except a lil cap space he could have got with someone not near as good. We also need to re-sign Perry this season or risk another Penner situation. Moving Mac fixes this as well. Hopefully Weight will have some chemistry with Bert - Mac didn't...Our defense is now insane - the best. Selanne coming back will give us 2 legit scoring lines, still the best checking line around, special teams and role players intact, and a much improved 4th line compared to last year. All we have to do in sneak in to the play-offs. Then, no one will want to play us. This team is built for success in the play-offs.WC is around, I see him at the games. They must set rules before next season starts. Deadlines and injury related reasons only, or else it will be a joke.

being a canucklehead at heart, it kills me to say that the ducks are going to have a great post-all star break run. that powerplay is going to explode with those 2 vets back.
i still believe luongo is the best goalie in the league, but he is not playing like the bobby lou we all know and love (i know he is a little distracted with his wife's pregnancy)..we need him back in his fine form, and quick. i had high hopes going into this season but i have accepted that this is probably not going to be the canucks season. with our HUGE lack of offensive threats and lui on a slump, we are going to stay low in the very competitive west. our future looks very bright though with all the young talent on this team. lets also hope we can unload some garbage sooner than later (ie. cowan, cooke, isbister, etc).

The National Hockey League has handed Anaheim Ducks defenceman Chris Pronger (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/player_bio.asp?player_id=681) an eight-game suspension for stomping on Vancouver Canucks forward Ryan Kesler (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/player_bio.asp?player_id=3513) in a game Wednesday night.

I figure the Habs and Pittsburgh in round 2 or 3 will be the hardest fought series... San Jose is on a tear, they could take down Detroit, but hey. It's playoff hockey. Who the Hell knows.

Well, I got my tickets on Saturday. I was only allowed to get a total of four tickets for all of the first round games, I got a pair for each of the first two. Since I had to go to the Bell Centre with my kids and we had to wait outside for an hour in -15 degree weather (I don't wanna hear about it!), I promised them I'd take one of them to each of the games.
I'm worried about injuries though. I hope Koivu and Streit will be back for the playoffs... but can you believe we've got 7 50+ point players this season? Kovalev has really shone this season, a great model for the youngest team in the league. And shoot, we've got one of the highest goals for in the league! And that Price kid... he's gonna come into his own. Almost all of our players are signed on until 2009/10... the future looks bright.
Damn, it feels good to be a Habs fan again. :)

Injuries, D was depleted from training camp on, not rookies, the top 4 on a continuous basis. This led to 3rd & 4th line players having to play 1st & 2nd line minutes with neither the experience, skill or talent to do so.
Again, the Sedin’s were our #1 line, they are good 2nd line players, not 1st line.
Nazzy has lost it, partly do to Coach AV’s defensive style of play, once Nazzy focused on D, he lost his offensive abilities..vanished..poof gone.
Coach AV’s style of coaching period. The guys were drained trying to play his type of hockey. A defensive stiffiling brand of hockey. The line matching, chess game, one goal games, grinding the crap out of these guys day in day out.
Lack of offensive talent, Nonis had a year to pick up some goal scoring and didn’t, for some legitimate reasons, some not, but he still failed to do so.
Too soft, more grit & size is badly needed, way to easy to play against.
Luongo had a off year because of his distractions with his wife’s difficult pregnancy & his baby, the fact alone that she’s been in Florida for 6mths because of all the problems. (side note: Plan next baby for off-season please)
Off- season will be busy for Nonis, he best step up and make some good trades and acquisitions. He will have lots more $ off the books, his hands were somewhat tied this year. AV will still be coach, but if he has good players he can lighten up on D for more entertaining hockey. Until next season……
On a happier note, hats off to Linden “Captain Canuck Forever” and the respect shown between all of the players last night including Iggy and the Flames. Check out the vid…I balled my frikin eyes out though, glad I wasn’t at the game, I was a babbling fool….:crybaby:

Boston/ Montreal should be a gimme... the last thing we need is a frikkin Red Sox-like comeback! NOBODY even DREAMED of Montreal winning the Eastern conference. This entire city has gone crazy... there's Habs flags flying off of every third car, and the playoffs haven't even started.
Pittsburgh/ Ottawa - Pittsburgh totally threw that game against Phillie so they'd meet Ottawa in the playoffs. No Alfredsson, no goalie... Pittsburgh in 5.
Washington/ Phillie- my hats off to Washington for getting Huet at the trade deadline, a decision thats paid off in spades for both teams. I hope they don't get too brutalized by Phillie. I think coach of the year should go to either Bruce Boudreau or Guy Carbonneault (the Hab's coach... they weren't even supposed to make the playoff this year, according to Toronto's Sports Network).
New Jersey/ New York - thats a toughie. Jersey's kind of run out of gas (although not as bad as Ottawa) and the Rangers have had their number all year.
The East will boil down to Pittsburgh/ Montreal (most exciting series of the playoffs, I'd wager), with the Caps as a possible upset team.
As for the West, it looks like San Jose's year. I like that Thornton kid. Sorry about your Canucks MGirl, but I'm not sorry about Shaun's Leafs. :p

PS: Did I mention how much I hate bikes. There should be graduated licensing for bikes like in Germany, instead of kids being able to get a license "poof" then go buy a racing bike right out of the box. It's stupid, absolutely stupid.

My Acadian cousin. I was so thrilled when the canucks drafted Luc because he's Acadian like my family. He undoubtedly was followed by many, many Maritimers of French origin.
His poor mother. She convinced him last year not to buy a motorcycle. This year she couldn't dissuade him. I'd ridden the same highway many times on my motorcycle. Too much bike for a novice rider.

Musta been disappointing to loose that game especially going so long. I'm glad though, I want 7 games, and 1 OT. I'm kinda disapointed Cheli's not playing though...a healthy scratch  He can't be that much of a liability, I think Babcock's being a dink (pun intended) :D Give the guy who's been there all this time some frikkin icetime. Show some respect, you know what I mean?
I have a healthy hate-on for him but I luv & respect him as a player. I can't believe more people aren't making a stink, or are they in Hockeytown  Actually my best meomory was when I was ice level one game, Bert just nailed Cheli & his face into the glass right infront of me. He face looked like a squished up pizza on the glass lol,,lol,,,:applaud:

Hmmmm. A goalie sporting the "C". I had to chech out NHL history on this one. Here is what I learned.
Only six goaltenders have served as team captains in NHL history. The Montreal Canadiens' Bill Durnan was the last goaltender to serve as captain in the 1947-'48 season.
Prior to 1948-'49, the NHL passed a rule prohibiting goalies to act as captain or assistants in what could be called the 'Durnan Rule.'
The Canadiens keeper left his crease so much to argue calls that opponents protested saying that Durnan's actions gave the Canadiens unscheduled timeouts during strategic points in games.

It's a stupid outdated rule that he can't wear the "C". 3 others have A's. Willie will talk to the refs if need be, & Ohlie to do ceramonial faceoffs, & Kesler to practice becoming the next captain.

And im gonna say the Leafs ride the high of there win over the wings and take there home opener 3-1 over the Habs!
The not sure of the names, but I voted for #4. It was the one with the three drummers. It was by far the best.

Well that high ride sure crashed and burned quick hey! :p Hope it was thoroughly enjoyed, it'll be the last ride for a loooooooong time..:p :D
Now with that said....I must now speak up about my boys. I let the 6-0-1 preseason ride because after all it was preseason, and it really didn't count for much other than confidence, but hey, now I can factor in the pre-season with the reg season and the 36 goals in 9 games. Especially the beautiful ass-kicking we gave to the Flamers 6-0 @ the home-opener, then dousing them again last night.
The new look, potent offence, faster, bigger, tougher, Canucks are going to shove all the low-ball predictions up the writers arses. :applaud:
I love how so many have written us off, such boneheads, we were desimated with injuries last year, if we had our D all healthy we would have made the playoffs. Now we're even better. I've been so pumped for the season to start, this is awesome. :D
I just hope Bieksa isn't friggin hurt bad already, and we don't start that injury shight all over again, I'll loooose it!!:zombie:
Yup, like I said vanquad, you're gonna regret not renewing your tic's, I still can't believe you did that, your gonna be kicking yourself for years, cause you'll never get them back now.

I must admit, they looked impressive. But we're talking about the Flamers. Sutter is building an NHL team for the 1990s. Even Philadelphia realised they were going down the wrong path.
By Christmas we'll know what kind of Canucks we have. I'm predicting more of the same for 30 years. :mega:

Ouch! How 'bout them Caps! Can score with anyone, but damn, what is with that idiot Feebledore! Sheeesh........The clown ought to at least bend his ass and pretend he can stop a shot. Whoever it was that called him out last summer sure knew what a chump he is. We need to dig up a goalie like now, or it will be a long winter......

ROFL...Feebledore, haven't heard that one. That was a disgusting game, no one showed up to play, got to give Caps credit though they took full advantage, I feel bad for fans that paid good money to witness that. I was majorly choked, it was PPV, $16 I'll never get back, nor the time I wasted watching it.
I kinda worried about it before hand because of the 2 huge games with the Flamers. It's a good thing in a way though, after winning all the previous games, it's a kick in the arse, you have to show up every night. You don't win on track record alone. Only Sanford showed up last night...pretty bad. Not even Capt. Lui.
Anywho, I was actually hoping to see Ovie score one or two spectacular goals, but he was held off, that's why I splurged and got PPV...oh well. You get to see him every game, you're lucky greyb, enjoy.....

I absolutely love these jersey's! I agree though, Johnny Canuck on the front would of been fantastic.
The Caps looked great Monday...all around terrible game by the nucks...highlight was definitley Sanford, which doesn't say much. Wish Hordichuck was out for a tilt....we could of used the momentum and a good pick me up.
I was kind of skeptical of Rypien cracking the 4th line over Brown (I am a huge Brown fan). But after those 2 beauty goals and him turning Brandon Prust's head into a punching bag, I have to say I am pretty impressed. That kid switches hands in a scrap perfectly....I love how he always starts with the left jab. Pyatt is looking like dead weight to me..hoping he is packaged in a trade. Would love to see Ouellette on that 2nd line but I am not sure if he has to clear re-entry waivers...

Isn't that the point? So people recognize it? Otherwise, Cunucks shouldn't even bother. What's the difference with their new jersey?
