Yeah Shaun these higher paid players are a bunch of boobs. Brodeur doesn't want that 7 million dollar contract screwed with. He's the baby. I'm definitely with the owners on this one. I have to be. Being an Oiler fan it all depends on the new CBA. How much money is enough for these bums.

Ya i hear that wilddog..Being a Leaf fan money has never been an issue, but even i would love to see a cap and revenue sharing.Player cap of maybe 4-5mil and 40 -50 mil team cap.No freakin luxury tax, because teams like the Leafs,Rangers,Wings and a few others would just go all.. NY Yankees http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
And what i dont understand,is why the players figure the owners shouldnt ''make'' money anyway...Is this not why they got in the business in the first place? Is that not why anybody gets into a business..to make money..
Right off the top of my head im figuring contraction. The first two teams i would wave bye bye to are the Canes and Preds...
What say you guys....Lets play the contraction game...How many teams would you fold, and who?

Hey westcoast and Gv The talk is, if they're out this season that the Ducks will be one of the teams that will be gone. What's up with that? I thought there was good fan support, What happened? Man, we need fewer teams the talent is pretty thin these days, if we get rid of 4 or 5 teams hopefully the trap will be a distant memory. And all teams will be competitive, a level playing field. I sure hope it's not you Duckheads though that would majorly suck hey.

I myself thing that there is plenty of talent. As far as the trap goes, that is a coaches game plan that makes the game slow and boring and yes we can do without. If the Ducks must go that would definately bite the big one. I would have to root for some out of state team because the Kings are shit.

Your right nate, some good hockey played back then. A lot better then the crap now.Back in the 80's I used to watch at least three games a week. Oh man I know, what a arrogant prick hey. Well if anyone who knows him here at home & respected him before, they sure don't now, what an idiot aye. Geez, I liked him at first too. I was really hoping for the fireman from here too, my hubby's played pick-up with him, but he's gone too. Then theres the lil prick from the Surrey Eagles, good for yapping & pesting but not enough talent.
I was really hoping they'd show us a whole game in the end, but it doesn't look like it. I bet it would be an awesome game.
As for the changes, yeah bring them all in, it would definately be an improvement. I wish they would also increase the ice surface, guys are way too big now, no room to skate anymore.
PS: Have you takin in any Pats games?
PS: Nate: Have you takin in any Moose games?

12-04-2004, 07:40 AM
Yeah I like a lot of the changes as well.Another thing is to shrink the goalie equipment back to mid 80's levels. As far as the goalie zone behind the net, If the goalies are wandering back there make them fair game for body checks. You'd have no more of this crap like Hasek running interference back there, knowing he's protected from getting hit. mg you talked about a bigger ice surface. I doubt the owners would go for that. It takes money out of their pockets. All of them high priced seats gone. The faster teams would definitely benefit though.

Haven't taken in any Moose games MG, the old arena sucked ass for accessibility because of some fairly steep ramps and lousy wc seating, so i never bothered going there if i didn't have to. And i've been too busy since the new arena opened to go check it out, although i hear it's nice, so i will sometime, maybe over christmas, or the next time Tootoo is in town. Do any of you guys listen to any Vancouver radio,..Dan Russells Sports Talk on CKNW98 (9-12 every night) or MOJO730 6-6 every day? Geez, I never realized how much hockey talk I listen to, till I typed it.. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif Sportstalk is national, so you might, then again we all have puters so you can if ya want anyway.
Anywho, Of course the leagues not gonna take that proposal tommorrow, the 24% is just a one time thing, their proposal still doesn't address the systemic problem (oh my God, I don't mean to sound like pencil-neck Bettman)But it's true, Toronto, Detroit, Rangers, Av's, are like.. oh yeah baby, we saved 10-40 million bucks...lets go on a spending spree http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
They offered up 24% knowing the league wouldn't accept it. Anywho, at least they got things rolling...hopefully. Some how though, I really don't think the counter proposal will be anything the players will accept, not this year anyway. They won't take a hard cap. I wish they'd just friggin do it and settle at about a 40 mil cap and 50 cents on the dollar for luxury tax, not 20 measily cents on 30mil and drop the freakin puck!!!!!!
PS: Tucker was even there....he got booed, but changed to cheers..couldn't not ride him a bit http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Chelios is as stupid as they come. If he's not coplaining about how many millions he should be making, or taking jobs away from guys who are only making a few grand, he's out trashing hotel rooms.
The owners just need to all declare bankruptcy and start a new league with a 35 mil cap and a team in Winnipeg.
Chelios claims that a cap wouldn't help small market teams, if there had been a cap ten years ago, Winnipeg would still have a team, and a cap is the only way Alberta will still have 2 teams in ten years.

Well, I guess this meeting still going on has brought back some optimism again http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif I just can't believe that they could be so freakin stupid to not have this fiqured out to start next season. I think the owners will do anything at this point in time to get their salary cap. When this started I didn't really have a side. It seemed like something needed to be done to get the games finances under control though and the owner of my team is such a horse butt there is no hope in Chicago (oh the good memories I used to have and haven't for a long time now). Originally I thought this would be an 18 month ordeal (miss a season and a half). Now I think there will be NHL hockey in 12 months. Here's the scenario as I see it.
This weekend we get the announcement that the NHL season is over. Sometime over the summer they try to get together and can't reach an agreement. Start of next season the owners bring back the NHL with "replacement players" with the hopes "regular players" will start trickling back in and they'll break the union. Lots of pissed off fans, lots of bad hockey and empty arenas, lots less kids conceived in Canada http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif and lots of teams go under. 5 - 10 years from now we get back to the point where we have real NHL hockey again. Maybe by that time old Dollar Bill Wirtz will be a bunch of ashes in a vase somewhere I'll get real hockey in Chicago again. Hawks win the Cup in 2015!

They have to, the ice has been broken, they know it's the only way, they have to take a cap, and they will. Now the league has to raise up to 48-50, and we got game.

A few paragraphs from Chicago Sun Times column today I found interesting and pretty sad at the same time...
***Consider an ESPN.com poll Monday that asked voters to indicate what they'll miss most about the NHL. The game itself? The Stanley Cup playoffs? Fights? Nothing?
Your winner: Nothing, garnering almost half the vote and confirming that hockey has fallen hopelessly behind the NASCAR rage and settled somewhere in the vicinity of rodeo, pro lacrosse and the Monster Trucks series.***
***"We've given all we can give and gone as far as we can go,'' Bettman said.
So rather than save a sport -- rather than give pause to decades of prosperity and the legends who popularized Canada's game in our land -- Bettman would prefer to bury a union. As a result, hockey could be vulnerable to a coup. When the NFL buried the players association by using replacement players during the 1987 strike, there was no legitimate threat of another league starting play. Nor was there any such threat when Major League Baseball was interrupted by the 1994 strike. But amid the high tech and volatility of the 21st century, any wheeling and dealing is possible by new influences. The NHL may use replacement players -- "We will look at all alternatives,'' said Bill Daly, Bettman's No. 2 man -- but hockey was watered down enough when the legitimate players were in uniform****

Thanks, looks like a good information source. It will be interesting to hear what these same players (the ones taking jobs overseas, Mechanics Team, etc.) say next year when replacement players take their jobs in the NHL. They will have to keep their mouths shut since they have already set the precedent. This will get really nasty when they end the season tomorrow. I read the only reason Bettman is waiting until tomorrow to end the season is out of respect for Louis Sutter who is being eulogized today in Alberta (6 kids who played in the NHL) including the current coach of my Hawks.

Weep away Shaun...These knuckleheads should be ashamed of themselves. I heard on a radio Sports Talk show last night that with everything else going on there are six owners (including the jerk who owns the Blackhawks) who want revenue sharing from the playoffs even if you don't make it. Like most sports this is maybe more about owner vs. owner when you look behind the scenes. I've always believed in the "one crazy owner" concept in sports. You know the guy who gives ARod $252 million when the closest offer was $190 million. The Red Wings spending over $80 million last season in payroll.

Shaun, I agree with you 100% except I WON'T be there for the Blackhawks. For me its officially over as a Hawks fan. Dollar Bill Wirtz (aka Mr. Potter from Its A Wionderful Life) had the nerve to hold a press conference and state that no way would he ever televise home games. Well, you horse's ass you never did televise them in the frist place and you want to shove this down our throats too after the season if cancelled. F you Dollar Bill.
The Hawks are one of the original teams who at one point about 10 years ago made the plyoffs in more consequetive years then any other team in all of sports. Chicago is the 3rd largest market with a fairly new United Center arena and what do we get; worse record in NHL last season (23 pathetic wins), no playoff for almost every year in the past 10, no home games on TV, 1/3 the fans showing up as go to Chicago Wolves games, inability to keep good players, and a payroll that is would fit a team playing in a 3rd world country. I just have had it. Maybe I'll become a Red Wings fan.
By the way, we can blame the Red Sox for no Stanley Cup. I heard today that the last time there wasn't a cup was in 1919 when they had that flu and cancelled the cup. THat same year the Red Sox won the World Series. Interesting huh?

Unreal man... bring on the valium already. I've never been so pissed in my life, at least now I'm able to calm down about that freakin Moore goof , he had me livid again the past couple days. Notice how he's having the case taken to the states where it's Civil Suit Utopia. Anywho, bring on the circus. O Boy, lets all play a round-robin for Lord Stanley. It's good for the peoples jobs I guess, we'll be able to try out the new rule changes, carry on with the draft sort of. Geez, why not win one game, loose the rest and get a 1st round pick http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
Oh well, I guess it will asure we start on time next year too, that's the main thing. I sure wish they would not award Lord Stanley though, it's a joke. They should just pass on it this year, may-be some sort of trophe, but not Stanley. Don't you agree.
Oh, and I'll be fun watching the Leafs loose again too http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif Also seeing Bert back on the ice, they have to re-instate him, because of a bogus 28 game round-robin.
So, if it does fire up again like it looks like it will..I'll get things started.. lol.. Watch this will be the year the Make-Me-Laufs will win the cup, it's about the only chance they'll ever have..lol..lol.. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif

What a pack of incompetent idiots. I can't believe this actually happened what a laughing stock it has become. It's disgusting, what a pack of goofs.
Pathetic, that's it, Pathetic, how can they be so freekin stupid. It's a joke, it's gone beyond selfish, arogant, egotisical, greedy, lil' pieces of shit, I' hate em all, I wish someone would pile them all into a building and hang them by their balls till they're all dead!

What i found interesting, was that Mario was for the 42.5 with a possible ramping up to 45...but the DALLAS shot it down..DALLAS WTF?..And why is the Union so scared to look at teams books? The union is fucked.
Anyways,it sure is hurt the Canucks next year eh! With Bertuzzi,May and Crawford all locked up in prison because Bertuzzi's an idiot. What was it Moore did again to deserve what he got? I cant even remember http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Thanks for the scoop on Mr. "fat can". We get very little hockey news in Chicago anymore. Our dear old owner has pissed off so many fans that it just doesn't get the play it used to here.
I have mixed feelings about the AHL filling in. In one respect it would be nice to see hockey return and get the finances under control so the game can "maybe" prosper again. But, I've always liked the NHL players. In this day where we have professional athletes that are so untouchable and act like overpaid spoiled brats that wouldn't know what the word team means, hockey players are typically very approachable, somewhat humble and think team first (obviously not all of them but its been a pretty good generalization). Like I pointed out a week or so ago in this thread NHL players will have nothing to complain about since they took other people's jobs.
I also think that the owners will use these guys and throw most of them away when they suit their purposes so I struggle with that. I just hate to see old Dollar Bill get his way by using guys for a lot less money. My guess is this was the owners plan long time ago.
No soup and no hockey for you/us this season http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Even on the bigger rinks. For now, its the CHL,the AHL and any other North american professional league's from now on. Its all good.

LOL...Nah, I'm still here, I started chuckling though...trying to picture myself jumping out a window:
1)I would have to find a window ledge low enough that I could lift & transfer onto,
2)I would have to make sure the window would open wide enough that I could spin & pull my legs through,
3)Hope theres nothing in the way on the way down cause I could only really fall out the window,
4)Hope the hell it's high enough so I just don't just go from being a para to a quad,
5)Here on someones radio on the way down " Yes folks the NHL starts back up next weeeeeeeeeeeek....SPLAT....LOL..LOL..
I think I'd rather do one big wack at least I'd get a good buzz before I head off to Hockey Heaven where anyone who plays the trap is sent straight to Hell..lol..
I'm just so pissed at these guys acting like children, that last freakin episode just turned my figgin stomach. Both sides have totally disgusted me.
Then there's ol lying sack of sh*t Steve Moore, suing everyone he can, I can't believe he's not suing the zamboni driver. He says he can't even excersise yet, a year later..Yeah ok buddy..I know quads who were excersising a couple months later with head gear in. My physio had me doing stuff a couple weeks later.
Sure the guys gotta sue, he'll never play hockey again because he's been black-balled for being a goof, not because he's not healthy enough. If he pulls this off and the precedant is set he will single handily destroy hockey as we no it.
I mean come on make a settlement out of court with Bert, only Bert, not the whole friggin team and organization, listed in his bloody conspirisy theory http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif He's such a goof, although I'm sure his lawyer parents and "Kobe's lawyer http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif are helping him along. Again Phftt..Moore's decision to want MONEY more than he wants to play hockey is whats ended his career. He knows it's either or, he might have lasted one or two more years in the NHL, never amounting to anything, lucky to be a 4th liner. So he through his pride out the window and went for the cash...sickening really, you could ask any of his team-mates if they wanted him back in the league, I doubt one would say yeah. Even when he was asked if the NHLPA was backing him, he replied "No Comment" What does that tell ya, huh? He sold out man http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

Unreal, this kids got it made, he hasn't even played in the NHL yet, never mind not even being drafted yet...must be nice hey!
From TSN website:
Crosby inks lucrative endorsement deal
TORONTO (CP) - Sidney Crosby has joined NBA star Allen Iverson, NFL quarterback Peyton Manning, actress Lucy Lui and rappers Jay-Z and 50 cent in Reebok's stable of athletes and celebrities endorsing the company's sportswear and sports equipment.
The 17-year-old Rimouski Oceanic forward has signed what is reported to be a five-year, 2.5-million US dollar endorsement deal with Reebok, which continued its aggressive push into the hockey market by signing the best young hockey prospect in years.
Reebok beat out rivals Nike, Bauer and Mission to sign Crosby and flew him to Toronto on the company plane for a splashy news conference Tuesday at the Air Canada Centre.

The Crosby Show on TSN.ca
"I've been in this business for 15 years. Based on my experience in working in hockey with other athletes, it's probably the best deal I've seen so far in terms of apparel and equipment," said Pat Brisson, Crosby's agent with IMG.
Crosby has signed an NHL-calibre endorsement contract even though he has yet to drafted by the league.
"This is obviously a big deal and it's something I'm happy to be part of, but it's not going to change me as a person or a player," Crosby said. "Money is not going to change me. I'm going to be the same person no matter what happens."
Reebok already has an equipment deal with the Canadian Hockey League, which includes the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in which Crosby plays.
But Crosby will wear Reebok skates and equipment exclusively and Reebok footwear, apparel and training equipment off-ice. He will not use Reebok's sticks yet, as he has two years remaining on a four-year deal with Sherwood.
Tuesday's announcement at the ACC got full-on media coverage in a Leafs-centred market starved for hockey news of any kind during the NHL lockout.
Crosby, the unanimous choice to be the first overall pick whenever the 2005 NHL draft actually is held, stepped to the podium on the Toronto Raptors practice court wearing jeans, a Reebok hooded sweatshirt and an Rbk baseball cap.
He answered questions in both English and French with parents Troy and Trina in attendance.
The five-foot-10, 193-pound forward from Cole Harbour, N.S., has rewritten the record books for players his age, but it is what he is projected to do in the pros that made him attractive to Reebok.
"The most important thing wasn't the dollar figure, but to have a long-term relationship," said Matt O'Toole, president and CEO of The Hockey Company, which is a Reebok subsidiary. "With a player like Sidney, we don't want to have a one-or two-year relationship. We want it to be for his career."
Reebok bought The Hockey Company, based in Montreal, and in doing so acquired its equipment brands CCM, Jofa and Koho, last year.
Reebok announced in January it was introducing its own line of equipment called Rbk. The company has signed NHL players Chris Pronger, Tony Amonte, Mike Modano, Curtis Joseph and twin brothers Henrik and Daniel Sedin.
In Crosby, Reebok gets a client who is actually playing, which most of the above players are not during the current NHL lockout.
"That's a particularly nice thing," O'Toole said. "He's on the ice for a full season this year and he's playing fantastic."
Reebok first contacted Crosby's family when he was 15, but the company can thank another NHL client, Patrice Bergeron, for helping seal the deal with Crosby.
Bergeron, a Boston Bruins forward playing in the AHL this season, was Crosby's linemate and roommate at the world junior hockey championship this year. It didn't hurt that Bergeron was tournament's leading scorer and MVP.
"I tried to pick his brain and learn a little bit about the company," Crosby said.
Crosby doesn't turn 18 until August, but he has become an industry. In addition to the Reebok deal, Frameworth Sports Marketing is licensed to sell official Sidney Crosby memorabilia. On EBay, there are pages of Crosby-related items for sale.
Brisson said he is working on other deals for Crosby, including a sports energy drink endorsement.
Reebok, based in Canton, Mass., also sells Rockport, Greg Norman and Polo Ralph Lauren footwear brands.
The company said sales in 2004 were $3.8 billion, up from $3.5 billion in 2003.
PS: I luv his quote:
"This is obviously a big deal and it's something I'm happy to be part of, but it's not going to change me as a person or a player," Crosby said. "Money is not going to change me. I'm going to be the same person no matter what happens."
http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif Yeah...OK...Sure..Whatever you say Sidney...

From todays "Hockey News":
Article (http://www.thn.com/en/headlines/detail.asp?id=27908&cat=954945254360)
NHL 'improve-the-game' camps underway
Mark Brender
June 6, 2005
The NHL is kicking off three days of experimental scrimmage hockey in Toronto today with a radical proposal to improve the game.
First up in the morning session is a look at the Boston Bruins' "open ice" concept, under which the only relevant line on the ice is drawn above the faceoff circles in the defensive zones. Once a puck-carrier crosses that line, everything would be allowed - i.e. no icings will be called, no passes would be called back for being too long and there would be no such thing as offside.
The NHL says it will watch for promising trends over the three days in what is being billed as a "research and development" camp. There will be two scrimmages a day and all of the ideas that have been tossed around to boost excitement and scoring chances - smaller pads, bigger nets, two-line passes, new lines in different places - are on tap. Players recruited to participate include overage juniors and Canadian university players.
The afternoon session on Monday features larger nets and no red line. Tuesday is set to be the testing ground for zero tolerance on infractions against the puck carrier, plus more liberal passing rules using a new line across the top of the faceoff circles that would modify icing and offside rules, as advocated by Scotty Bowman.
No-touch icings, no icings on penalty kills and overtime experiments with 4-on-4, 3-on-3 and shootouts are also planned for study. All of the sessions are going to be filmed for later review.
"Some of them might gain a bit of a foothold because you say hey, this works, it looks pretty good," said Mike Murphy, NHL vice-president of hockey operations. "Then I think it might get directed to the competition committee where it can get debated and looked at a little more intensely than it is right here."
A competition committee made up of players, GMs and other representatives from the league and the union is expected to be formalized within a new collective bargaining agreement. If the CBA gets completed in time, the committee could decide to hold more on-ice sessions this summer or try favored changes in NHL pre-season games, Murphy said.
The American League could again serve as a testing ground in 2005-06. The shootout, restrictions on goalie movement and other changes tested in the AHL last year are likely to be adopted by the NHL.
"I would predict that almost every one of those things will come into our game when we start," Murphy said.
My take:
1. Bigger nets: Definately
2. No redline: Yeah baby!
3. Restricted goalie movement: Yipper
4. Smaller goalie equipment: Hell yeah!
5. No-touch icing: Undecided
6. No icing on Penalty kills: Oh yeah..
7. 3 on 3 Shootouts: Adds excitement, I'm in.
8. Zero tolerance on obstruction, phftt, yeah ok, where have I heard that before http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
9. Scotty's idea, have to read more about it.
10. Leafs banned from the leaque: Priceless http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif

1. Bigger nets: Absolutely not!..Those things look rediculous.
2. No redline:That im for..
3. Restricted goalie movement:as long as its the same formula as the AHL,im in
4. Smaller goalie equipment: Absolutely!
5. No-touch icing: Its about time!
6. No icing on Penalty kills: Different,id have to see it.
7. 3 on 3 Shootouts: I like 4 on 4 for 5mins,then a 3 on 3 for 5mins then a shoot out.
8. Zero tolerance on obstruction. LMAO
9. Scotty's idea, have to read more about it. Agreed, seems kinda weird to me.
10. Leafs banned from the leaque: Will im not sure what a ''leaque'' is,but i dont want them there either. Is it some sort of vegetable http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif
My feelings as will as a majority of players is if you want to clean up obstruction, high sticks and that kinda crap..LOSE THE INSTIGATOR RULE!

Domi pulls no punches in rapping league, owners

Toronto - Tie Domi, who did not want to address the possibility he may have played his final game as a Toronto Maple Leaf, nevertheless had plenty to say about the hardline and small-market National Hockey League club owners who have battled his friend, Leafs part-owner Larry Tanenbaum, during the lockout.
Domi, who was at the Woodbine Race Track yesterday to handle the draw for the North American Cup, the richest standardbred race in North America, also took a direct shot at NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and a more subtle one at National Hockey League Players' Association executive director Bob Goodenow. Bettman, Domi noted, called the lockout that cost the entire 2004-05 season, while Goodenow also had a role in it.
But his greatest ire was reserved for NHL owners such as Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs, Craig Leipold of the Nashville Predators, Peter Karmanos of the Carolina Hurricanes and Bill Wirtz of the Chicago Blackhawks. All of them, except Wirtz, are on the owners' negotiating committee, and some of them are thought to be among those who censured Tanenbaum, a moderate who was appalled at the loss of the season, at a governors meeting last winter.
"You look at a guy like Jacobs, for example, he had one of the jewels of the United States and he just let it go," Domi said. "He did nothing to improve his team, did nothing to market his teams.
Advertisements
"The same with the guy in Chicago [Wirtz]. He doesn't show his games on TV. How much do these guys really care about their teams and the game and about winning?"
Domi added that Tanenbaum, the chairman of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, is one of the few owners who takes the trouble to get to know all of his employees, not just the players. He also noted that hardline owners such as Karmanos created the NHL's economic woes by driving up salaries through his $38-million (all figures U.S.) contract offer to Sergei Fedorov, which the Red Wings were forced to match in salary to keep their star forward.
"The guy in Los Angeles [Philip] Anschutz, he probably doesn't even know his players' names," Domi said. "Larry [Tanenbaum] knows every player's name, and his wife's name and his kids' names. It's pretty special to be part of this group."
Domi was clearly bitter about how the lockout turned out for the players. He is not unhappy because the NHLPA has settled for a salary cap that ties salaries to revenues, but he is unhappy that it took so long to do so.
It appears a new collective labour agreement will be reached within a few weeks -- the sides met again yesterday in Toronto and the session will continue today -- but that may be too late for many of the older players. With a maximum salary cap of $36-million expected, and more than 400 free agents on the market, some older players will either be forced into retirement or forced to take huge pay cuts.
Domi will be 35 by the time training camps are to start in the fall. He is also an unrestricted free agent coming off a contract that paid him $1.7-million in its final year. As a player who earned his money for toughness and checking, rather than scoring, Domi will find it difficult to avoid a pay cut.
All Domi would say is that he expects to retire as a Maple Leaf and has not thought about any alternatives. But he admitted he thinks he has "two or three years" left as an NHL player, which leaves the possibility he could, however reluctantly, finish up somewhere else.
Either way, he says, he will go into the next NHL season still unhappy about a lockout that was waged for the survival of small-market teams in the United States, while the small-market teams in Canada such as the Winnipeg Jets and Quebec Nordiques were allowed to move during Bettman's watch.
"Why are they trying to save Nashville and Carolina? Why didn't they try and save Winnipeg and Quebec?"
Shaun

This is ''Flapping his gums''..these are just the highlights. This couldnt be anymore true especially when he calls out owners who dont even no who plays for them, why bother if they dont care..RIGHT?..RIGHT?..DOMI'S RIGHT..RIGHT?

I could totally see Bertuzzi going to the Ducks. With Burke there and Naslund not knowing how much longer he wants to stay in the NHL,i could see them both gone from the Canucks. How much longer does Naslund have on his contract? or is he a FA now? If Naslund doesnt sign another long term contract,Bertuzzi will leave.Naslund makes Bertuzzi, without him, just watch his numbers drop..This is just pleasant hockey chat http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Dude, Dude, Dude... He's paid his dues, he's the BEST POWER FORWARD in the league, and Moore will never lace up in the NHL again anyways. NOT because he's injured, he's black-balled for pulling the shit he is. No one wants him, and he knows it, he's a borderline 4th liner, who's bad news, so he's just going to try and suck out as much cash as he possibly can from Bert and the Canucks. I can't believe he's not suing the Ave's who dog-piled on him too, they're the ones that probably caused the most damage. And that will get proved in court.
You ask any player now and they all say Bert should be reinstated. They see now what a friggin joke and circus it was made out to be. Even when he gets re-instated he's still gonna be paying for it because of the civil suit. Time to move on and play some hockey.

Just one of many quotes, I could list hundreds, but I especially like this one coming from Detroit. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Red Wings: Notebook
Hatcher gets ready for Bertuzzi
By Ted Kulfan / The Detroit News
Canucks vs. Red Wings
DETROIT -- There's no need to introduce Red Wings defenseman Derian Hatcher to Canucks forward Todd Bertuzzi.
Hatcher knows all about Bertuzzi.
"He's the best power forward in the game," Hatcher said. "He's tough, he can fight, and he's strong. And he has good hands, to boot.
He just has all the right tools."

Hey westcoast or gv, is Burkey creating a buzz at all down there? So you seen a good example of his brazen nature with Babcock, he doesn't screw around when it comes to contracts with anybody. I hope he doesn't take our asst coach, Mike's a great guy too.
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=129813
Geez, Burkey better not be planning on plucking a bunch of Canucks boy, I'll be pissed. It's bad enough he's a Duck now. Which reminds me, you can bet that was one of the 1st things Burke wanted to loose "The Ducks", he probably even had it put in his contract. Give his new players a name that instills respect not a laughing stock. Players are probably so excited it's not even funny, they won't have to where a freakin duck on their sweaters. Sure it's great for kids but....
Apparently the fans will vote on a new name, bet you guys are happy about that hey?:applaud:
So seems like next week hey, bout time, starting to read and listen to more hockey again, still pissed but, slowly getting pumped.

NHL, NHLPA agree to tentative deal
Last Updated Thu, 14 Jul 2005 12:10:26 EDT
CBC Sports (http://sympatico.msn.cbc.ca/sports/credit.html)
The NHL and the Players' Association struck a tentative deal Wednesday on a new collective bargaining agreement that could end the hockey lockout.
INDEPTH: Faceoff 2004-05 (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/indepth/cba/)
http://www.cbc.ca/gfx/topstory/sports/bettman_gary050209.jpg On Wednesday, the NHL and commissioner Gary Bettman agreed in principle to a new CBA with the players' union. (CP File Photo)
The deal, reported to be for six years, still requires ratification from both the league's board of governors and the players' union. The players will meet next Wednesday and Thursday in Toronto while the owners will meet Thursday in New York. Both sides are expected to approve the deal, leading to the return of NHL hockey for the 2005-06 season.
INDEPTH: Off-season changes (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/indepth/cba/features/teambyteam.html)
The league and union said details of the agreement would not be released until ratification is completed.

Both sides held internal discussions in New York on Tuesday morning – the 10th straight day of labour meetings – before wrapping up the 24-hour bargaining session Wednesday morning.
INDEPTH: Lockout chronology (http://www.cbc.ca/sports/indepth/cba/features/chronology.html)
At 301 days, the NHL lockout is the longest labour dispute in the history of North American pro sports.
"A lot of people say that in this type of situation nobody wins. But that's never true. It's about control and the owners got what they wanted – control," Ron MacLean, Hockey Night in Canada host, told CBC Sports Online Wednesday.
FROM JULY 13, 2005: The owners won: MacLean, Cherry (http://www.cbc.ca/story/sports/national/2005/07/13/Sports/maclean_reaction.html)
"The owners won this go around, but the players won last time. That's what's great about sport."
The labour dispute began when the players were locked out last Sept. 15 – when the last CBA expired – by league commissioner Gary Bettman, who cancelled the 2004-05 season on Feb. 16

Hey, I'm here, my mom passed on last week, she had alzheimers, so as they say, it's really a blessing, it's for the best, yada, yada, yada, it still hurts. She was a hockey nut as well, everyone grew up Sat nights sitting around the tube watching Hockey Night in Canada didn't they. Even at her home the last few years, we'd watch the games on their big screen tv, what a treat that was.
Yeah, I'll sure miss her sweet lil voice doing the "Leafs Suck" chant.:applaud: Ah ha ha ha..lol..lol..
I'm glad we got all this hockey talk back hard & heavy on the tv and radio, it's helped with my headspace. I'm pretty pumped again, more than I thought I'd be. Yee-freekin -ha!!!! Man, August is gonna be one wicked month of action or what hey. Nevermind the fact that Crosby's gonna be a Canuck:D
I've gotta say say though, I'm also kinda nervous bout my team, who will be resigned and who wont. I hate freakin rumors man, unless I start them:D
Here's a good primer article for our budnicks south of the border,
http://www.tsn.ca/columnists/bob_mckenzie.asp?130373
I really like the linkage, the more exciting hockey they provide, the more ticket sales, the more money in their pockets, and some of the new rules, Like Scotty (Bowman) said, the teams are gonna be playing Canuck style hockey now, fast-paced offensive hockey. I can't wait.
I heard it wasn't even news in most cities, that really must suck not getting up to date timely info. Shauns already posted a few sites where you guys can stay up to date, join TSN's morning e-mail list, or listen to our radio stations all day & night via internet. I listen most of the day and night to Mojo 730 here in Van. it's a good one, lots of great guests.
Anywho, ya I'm here and I'm pumped, "Drop the Freak'in Puck!!!"
PS: Hey Duck buddies, well? Is Burke creating any kind of buzz down there or what? He should be, I'm pumped for you guys.

Actually Jim, This just might be the best season you've ever had, no more overpriced, selfish, fatheaded, spoiled, no-heart, candy-ass pansies taking up valuable space on the bench.
You'll probably see some great hockey now, may-be not winning every game, but hey, as long they play hard, give' r everything they got and play an entertaining style of hockey, what more could you ask for right. Especially if you end up getting Crosby, which is highly likely, that's a per'ty good start, if I do say so myself, ya lucky turd!
It's probably the first time in years people won't hate the Rangers and hope they loose every game. It'll be a first for me anyway. Nothing worse than trying to buy a cup.
Anywho, have faith you're probably in for a exciting ride the next few years.

Hot rumour out of Vancouver (and it is just that...a rumour....friends of mine emailed me today from the coast....) is that Bert may not want to come back to the Canucks, with or without Naslund. Apparently, he is giving some serious consideration to "getting a new start", for lack of a better term.
Is it an option worth looking at? Is he not a local boy? Steve Moore attack or not, he is still a hell of a hockey player and, given all the negativity he has been subject to under the microscope, could be had at a decent price. Mind you, not sure if he would like to come here with all the media attention, but don't you think he would look great with blue and white on.
Damn....a PP unit with Mogs, Mats and Bert. Allow your mind to wander.

Everyone fiqures 10 or 20 more games, I fiqure 13, cause he's missed 27, 7 playoffs which count for 2, so that would make an even 40. Although he shouldn't get anymore games!

and 1.5 a season, its an absolute steal...As for Allison,i love that sighning to,who wouldnt another 1.5 with performance bonuses..Awsome! Id be quite comfortable going into the season bringing in the likes of Steen and Wellwood and giving them shot.I say maybe sign one more tier 2 or 3 player..The Leafs RFA's are signed and including O'Neil and Allisons contracts, were still 7.5 mill under the cap.I'd be happy signing Lindros as long as its for no more than 2mil for 1yr with a team option for a second..

Hockey Canada has already sent a request to the Canucks that Bertuzzi be available for a Team Canada Olympic training camp next week in Vancouver and Kelowna.
''I'm glad the NHL has finally stepped in and put him back in the game and reinstated him,'' Wayne Gretzky, Team Canada's executive director, told TSN in an interview. ''Nobody condones what Todd did. I'm sure he'd be the first one to tell you it was a mistake.
''But you know it's time to move forward. We will invite him to our training camp. He's an elite player and I expect him to have a great year and be part of Team Canada come February in Italy.''

Im actually really excited about the new additions, more so Lindros and Allison.Theres alot of potential and not much risk with the contracts they signed, there both from and have always wanted to play for Toronto, and they both say they have something to proove...and so with that said i have complete faith that will finnish the regular season with 100+ points and make some noise in the playoffs..
and if not, with the Leafs not shelling out coin for large contracts this season, and UFA age dropping to 29 next year the Leafs are sitting in a postion right now that leaves them with 25-30mill in cap space next season, pretty damn nice position if ya ask me...HA HA HA HA HA..:applaud:

What was it Steve Moore did again?
I forgot, all the media frenzy outside of Vancouver focused on Bert's sucker punch and the famous bullshit "Broken Neck" "Lucky to be alive" poor Stevey. As to your question:
He cheapshotted our captain and leading scorer in the league, causing a concussion, injuring his wrist and elbow, never to be the same after he had to sit out to heal. He played injured & in pain for rest of the playoffs. He just didn't whine and turn it into a media frenzy. He didn't want opposing teams to know.
Or, I could say say it in the words used in the Moore camp...:
Media says:
"Moore zoned in on the Naslund, the leading scorer in the league and laid a viscious dirty elbow right to the head of Naslund, rendering him unconcious, causing a devastating concussion that may end his carreer, not to mention crushing his wrist, and hyper- extending his elbow. My God, Naslund's lucky to be alive." Let's hope he'll be able to play hockey again.
Well folks that's 2 stars in 2wks Moore tried taking out Martin St.Louie too. There's no room in the NHL for cheapshot marginal players like this kid trying to take out star players. Where's the respect these days? Anyways folks, lets just be glad Naslund isn't a quadraplegic, and he wasn't killed"
Good, realistic media article for a change:
http://msn.foxsports.com/nhl/story/3897292
Anywho, Be honest Shaun, did you really like Lindros after he pulled that shit with the Nordiques, and refused to play.
I've hated him for that reason, I've tried to like him, but I can't on principal.
But, it's funny how if someones on your team you now like them. Like rumours of Forsberg coming here, I hate the guy, but I started thinkin..geez..he's not that bad I guess :D
PS: Yes, if Allison's healthy, he could work out good hey. You have to be either 1st or 2nd in your division, it's a no brainer your only competition is the Sens. The West is gonna be wickedly competitive this year..,wow...I'm pumped. Oh yeah, I like this Anson Carter pick up, I've always liked him, and for a mil, wow, now that's a scoop, (if they didn't just get him for trade bait, cause we still need a d-man.) I hope not though.
PS: I'm gonna start a poll.....lol...lol...

Actually to tell you ya the truth ive never had a problem with Lindros,he was never on the top of my Fav's list for the reason you mentioned, but i always liked his game and i really believe he's gonna play huge for us this year...and ya if Allison can get back on the horse, were lookin at an 80point forward.
Id like to get another top 6 winger though,i love the way were set down the middle though,Sundin,Allison,Lindros and Stajan...NICE!:D ...but we need another winger...

At least if our goalie goes down we still have a team. Without Eddie, you guys have as much chance of winning as the :hahaha: Roughriders :D

Carter and Park, I think Carter's really gonna help the twins. Ohlund's not going anywhere either, our guys are loyal, besides they all know we're bringing Lord Stanley to Vancouver where it belongs, so why go anywhere else? They're all playing for less to stay here dude! And...Dan the Man will prove all you nay-sayers wrong Buck!
Although we still need a d-man, not huge hit Sope's & Chubie are replaceable. Nonis said we aren't finished, he'll take care of it, probly by trade he said, not much left via RFA's. I'm in no hurry, I'm quite happy giving our guys on the farm a shot, we're pretty deep these days.
We didn't need any big moves we were already a good team, everybodies just playing catch-up.
PS: Hey paraluver, welcome, funny you should say "Go Flyers" I actually came here tonight to post this article from that **(monkeygirl holding nose)** Torana Leafnation radio station "The Fan" He's the Leaf hockey reporter, that's a few guys now that say Canucks/Flyers in cup final. Article:BY HOWARD BERGER
The Fan-590 Radio, Toronto
As August slowly winds towards September, and the start of NHL training camps for the first time in two years, the frivolous custom of predicting how teams might fare is gripping hockey fans from coast to coast.
And, why not? Forecasting is a harmless, amusing exercise that heralds the onset of every professional sports campaign – spawning much debate and contention. It is almost always colored by bias and impartiality, and it frequently bears little resemblance to the end result. But, it’s a load of fun, nonetheless. In the summer of 2005, forecasting should be a delightful pursuit for fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Vancouver Canucks, Anaheim Mighty Ducks and Phoenix Coyotes – teams that were functional and creative in the free agent lottery. It is less so for followers of the Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs, Buffalo Sabres and St. Louis Blues, all of whom appear to have lost depth at key positions.
The team I follow, the Maple Leafs, is in a crisis at the moment for quality wingers. Coach Pat Quinn has indicated he will start the regular season by using his top three forwards – Mats Sundin, Eric Lindros and Jason Allison – at their natural centre-ice position, leaving the club perilously thin along the flanks. Having lost Gary Roberts, Owen Nolan, Alexander Mogilny and Joe Nieuwendyk (a center who often played the wing) from the 2003-04 squad, the Leafs are currently banking on a group of wingers that sorely lacks scoring punch.
While anything can happen moving forward, there is no escaping the fact that the nine wingers the Leafs list on their depth chart (Darcy Tucker, Jeff O’Neill, Alex Ponikarovsky, Tie Domi, Chad Kilger, Nik Antropov, Clarke Wilm, Wade Belak and Nathan Perrott) combined to score 69 goals in ’03-04. That’s an average of less than eight per man. Mogilny had eight, by himself, in only 37 games. And the total of 69 among the current group was attained by the threesome of Roberts (2http://forum.canucks.com/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif, Nieuwendyk (22) and Nolan (19).
Quinn will likely discover in short order that he must shift one of his centers to the wing, but that will obviously detract from his depth up the middle. So, unless general manager John Ferguson pulls off a trade to acquire a scoring winger, or to create extra cap space, the Leafs and their fans are left with nothing but hope.
Hope that Tucker, if utilized in a scoring role, can regain the offensive creativity he had as a Junior in Kamloops. Hope that O’Neill can stay healthy and threaten the 40-goal mark. Hope that Domi can have a career year like he did with 15 goals in ’02-03. Hope than Ponikarovsky and Antropov can finally graduate beyond mediocrity. And hope that Kilger, Wilm, Belak and Perrott can score at levels that prove they do not belong in the American Hockey League, where they’d reside on any contending team with forward depth.
Those who suggest the Leafs will derive immediate benefit from rookies Alexander Steen and Kyle Wellwood are the most hopeful of all, given the club’s appalling history of player development. It can easily be argued that the Leafs have not cultivated a star performer since they chose Wendel Clark first overall in the 1985 NHL draft -- two years before Sidney Crosby was born. Defenseman Tomas Kaberle has been a surprise player considering his draft position – 204th overall in 1996. But, it’s more than a stretch to call Kaberle a star.
Legitimate hope for the Leafs evolves around second-year center Matt Stajan, who performed very well in his rookie campaign, but who Quinn did not have enough confidence in to dress during the ’04 playoffs.
On the flip side, hockey fans in western Canada could be in for the grandest season ever. It is my opinion that any of the Flames, Oilers or Canucks could easily represent the Western Conference in the 2006 Stanley Cup Final. All three teams have done a terrific job since the player market re-opened on Aug. 1.
The Flames, defending Western champions, re-signed Jarome Iginla, and added character and scoring punch by inking Darren McCarty and Tony Amonte. In McCarty, they also added the intangibles of a multiple Stanley Cup winner. If goalie Miikka Kiprusoff can play at anywhere close to his ’03-04 level, Calgary will be tough to beat once again. The Oilers – already a fast, entertaining club – made superb additions in Chris Pronger and Michael Peca. A defenseman of Pronger’s caliber rarely comes available. The entire Edmonton team will be able to rally around his size, experience and savvy. Peca has simply been one of the most reliable players in the league over the past decade. The Canucks are the most talented of the three western teams, and they enhanced their scoring ability by signing free agent Anson Carter. Re-upping with Markus Naslund was obviously the key off-season move, and Vancouver will clearly benefit from the return of Todd Bertuzzi. As always, however, the Canucks’ capacity to go deep in the playoffs will largely depend on re-signed goaltender Dan Cloutier, who has yet to overachieve in the springtime.
Exceptional work by GMs Darryl Sutter, Kevin Lowe and David Nonis, however, will make the scramble for positioning in the Northwest Division a continuous highlight in 2005-06, augmented by the western-Canadian teams facing each other eight times. Should be a blast to watch.
Elsewhere in Canada, the Ottawa Senators made their big splash prior to the lockout when they acquired goalie Dominik Hasek. Clutch netminding has clearly been the missing ingredient for the multi-talented Ottawa teams in recent years. When Patrick Lalime – now in St. Louis – played his best hockey for the Sens, they came within five minutes of making it to the 2003 Stanley Cup Final. Lalime, however, fell apart in the seventh and deciding match of a playoff round against Toronto in ’04, and Ottawa dropped a series it dominated for all but four periods. If Hasek hasn’t lost anything significant during the NHL’s absence, the Senators will continue to be a handful for any opponent.
In Montreal, fans were buoyed by the Canadiens’ stirring comeback from a 3-1 series deficit against Boston in the ’04 playoffs. But, it’s my belief that Montreal and Toronto are a large step behind the other Canadian teams.
On paper, the State of Pennsylvania is riding high into the new season. Bob Clarke can be a curmudgeon at times, but give the Flyers’ GM loads of credit for positioning his cap-heavy team well enough to add mega players Peter Forsberg and Derian Hatcher, along with the underrated and steady Mike Rathje. Like Vancouver, the Flyers’ fate rests with goaltender Robert Esche graduating to a higher level in the playoffs, but keep an eye on rookie Finnish goalie Antero Niittymaki, who led the Flyers’ AHL farm team – the Philly Phantoms – to the ’05 Calder Cup title.
In western Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Penguins have undergone an eye-popping makeover with the additions of rookie phenom Sidney Crosby, along with accomplished veterans Sergei Gonchar, Ziggy Palffy, John Leclair and Jocelyn Thibault. The Penguins – minus these players – were one of the NHL’s lowest-ranked teams in 2003-04, but many people forget the improvement they showed in the final stages of the season, winning 12 and losing only five of their last 19 games. Defenseman Ric Jackman was absolutely lost while playing in Toronto (he had a poor relationship with Leafs’ assistant/defense coach Rick Ley), but his offensive talents flourished in Pittsburgh after being traded for veteran Drake Berehowsky – long gone, now, from the Blue and White. In 25 games with the Penguins, Jackman struck for 24 points, including six powerplay goals. If Mario Lemieux’s body can somehow hold together for much of the coming season, there’s no telling how improved the Penguins might be.
The best off-season signing of all was made by Brian Burke – Anaheim’s new GM – who lured defenseman Scott Niederemayer away from the New Jersey Devils. As with Pronger in Edmonton, the Mighty Ducks will be able to build much of their team around Niedermayer -- the defending Norris Trophy winner, and a multiple champion at all levels of the game (not to mention his character as a person). When coupled with the Los Angeles Kings’ acquisition of outspoken and talented Jeremy Roenick, southern California should be a hockey hot-spot this winter.
Even the moribund Chicago Blackhawks – who haven’t won a Stanley Cup since the days of black-and-white television – came alive in the marketplace, pilfering Cup-winning goalie Nikoali Khabibulin from Tampa Bay, while adding veterans Adrian Aucoin and Martin Lapointe to a up-and-coming group that features Tyler Arnason and Kyle Calder. There could be reason for a few more backsides in the seats at the United Center this season.
Phoenix has some big-time improving to do, but it should be a fun place to watch hockey this winter with Wayne Gretzky behind the bench, and newly signed Curtis Joseph in goal.
Red flags have risen in Buffalo, St. Louis and Denver. The Sabres – already talent-thin throughout – suffered huge free agent losses in Alexi Zhitnik and Miro Satan, both of whom defected to the Islanders (a potential darkhorse in the East). Buffalo did recoup, somewhat, by adding classy defenseman Teppo Numminen from Dallas. The Blues cannot possibly replace, in one season, what Pronger meant to them. It was only a few years ago that Pronger and Al MacInnis gave St. Louis one of the most multi-faceted defense pairings in the NHL.
And, considering Colorado’s lofty status in the past decade (two Stanley Cups), how quickly can the Avalanche rebound from losing stalwarts Peter Forsberg and Adam Foote?
So, given the fact that predictions are both perilous and harmless, my late-summer pick for the ’06 Stanley Cup Final is… Philadelphia vs. Vancouver.

MG,
He's gained a lot of support pretty quickly with the Duck fans. He's made some nice moves but we're close to the cap. We're all hoping to keep this team together without having to make a trade. It's gonna be close.
Honestly though, hockey is still kind of a "cult" thing here in So Cal. 9 out of 10 Califonia sports fans still wouldn't know who Burke is... Maybe another cup run might help some...
