Speaking of bragging rights, guess who the Sens (unbeaten in 10) are playing tonight.

Yikes gvinton, what comes around go around...another tie... the Ducks even gave the Kings fans a bad time in the stands with the "Upgrade to the outside glass" very funny but you had to be there to see it...bad goaltending by Huet... the first period was petty wide open though, not what I expected. I looked for westcoast_gc but I think he would have been directly behind and above where we sat. Is it just me or is it still weird not to see number 9 come flying off the bench. Hey if nothing else maybe my Kings can wear out/ beat up/soften up the Canucks on Thursday for you...
Hey MG, we get almost all home and road games free on cable for both the Kings and the Ducks. No pay per view unless you buy a season pass with the Dish. We also get a few other games a week on ESPN/ESPN2. The Nucks have better stats in almost all categories...even more reason we will win...I can dream can't I ?

LOL! Hey Dennis! How come all the players were lying on the ice like fish outta water when Sedin scored? LOL! That was hilarious, actually I felt bad, that was down right embarrasing. I really did feel bad for you. I hate it when I'm at a game like that. Sorry buddy! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif At least ya got one goal, (although it was a tip off our guy http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Oh yeah, I guess gv will be happy your Kings, oh, how did you put it "wore out/ beat up/softened us up for his game today" http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif
Bring on them cute lil ducklings, quack quack!!
PS: Hey Nate think if Shaun dare show his face after last night he'd be pissed at Alfredson when he pretended to throw his stick, all the other leaf fans were (as usual). That was hilarious!

So did ya go? I must say I was actually quite shocked that you guys managed as many shots as you did. We certainly don't allow that to often, you must have loved all that offence.
Wasn't that unreal when the Sedins each hit a post one after another, hilarious. Those twins always do everything the same, but that's getting a lil' ridiculous http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

MG,
Thankfully, you declined my wager. "In your dreams" was your response. In was pretty clear who was the better team that night (and this season so far).
I didn't go, my assistant coach went. I had to coach the kiddies. I'll be there tomorrow against the Columbus - they might even win that one...
The twins hitting the posts was funny, I think Gerber got whiplash trying to follow the puck. I only watched a couple periods because it got ugly. Anyway, I think there's a rematch in a week or so...
Looks like the Canucks had a nice trip to Cali, too bad you couldn't make it...

S#@t, just got back from a great road trip, Las Vegas, Tahoe, Napa Valley.. Get home Sat. night and see the Ducks got pulverized the Canuckle heads. What a shame. Only one bright spot. US jr. wins gold medal... cooooool. A friend of mine from Canada is going to try to hook me up with some Canuck tickets for the 27th. Hopefully it will pan out. I'm in need of another road trip after witnessing a crappy tie with the Blue Jackets... Sorry to see Ziggy is hurt. A great player to say the least and maybe Johnson will do a better job for Toronto. Hope

Well Nate it makes the person a fool and lucky he didnt quite seriously hurt somebody. It makes the Senaturds clown haired muppet a classless prick for finding some kind of amusement in this.Kinda like no one thought it was funny when Havlat got suspended for kickin like a ''BITCH'',but hey he's a Senaturd when in Rome right http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Hey MG,come on now a little compassion http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif(ya right,eh),i'd willing to bet if Naslund and Bertuzzi went down for awhile you'd be singing some sad songs.Im not whining just stating some facts it would be like seeking pleasure in beating the Canucks without Cloutier,Naslund,Morrison,Jovo and Bertuzzi, there just wouldnt be any right.Thats why im glad they were all there http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif

You actually have a good chance of winning tonights game, our home record is horrible. Hockey is so weird, at the beginning of the season we were unbeaten at home in 12, now it's the opposite almost. Yup, weird alright.

What? Theres another way to do it? http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Yeah it's an oldie, but a goodie!
Hey you Lil' Duckers! Told ya's ya had a chance to win! Who knows, maybe it will be the start of the 2nd half rally again. We seem to do that to teams, the Leafs were sucking earlier, they beat us, then they took off on that rampage (done now though) http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif Same as with the Flames, they hadn't done squat, Iginla hadn't even scored, he scored on us & they won, now they're smokin! (Well till he sprained his ankle on the icing)
Maybe now you guys too! Hey, ya never know that's why we love this game so much right! Oh yeah, you have to admit ol' Hank Sedin's goal was pretty sweet hey! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Speaking of icing, what's your opinion on icing, would you toss it or keep it? Lots of injuries? I like it but I don't, I'm sure if we lost a good player because of it, I'd want it tossed.

How about them Ducks. Just when I'm giving up on them, they pull one out... A second half rally would be outstanding, we start a small homestand tonight to try and get something going... Sedin's goal was sweet, made Havelid and Giggy look foolish.
I wish we could play Carecure rivals always, we're not that bad.
Duck vs. Nucks: 1-1
Ducks vs. Leafs: 1-0
Ducks vs. Kings: 0-0-1
I don't understand the icing question. Injuries & icing? Seems pretty safe to me.

gv....
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=68734
After the story there's message board comments. This icing rule has been coming up more and more over the years, regarding the need to stop injuries racing to touch the puck. Maybe just here in Canada, we are constently disecting everything hockey 12mths a year, but hey we love it!
gvinton
01-19-2004, 12:20 PM
Waaa, waaa. Come to think of it, I think the Flames are in town tonight. Yeah!
Icing is a part of the game. If you get outhustled to the puck, no icing. You can get hurt in MANY hockey situations, suck it up. I would like to see the NHL toy with the blue line or eliminate the red line altogether before they screw with icing. My $.02

My goalies are now Raycroft, Kiprusoff, and Giguere. That's a pretty good lineup to have right now.

And here we go! The day after the trade deadline, headin down the stretch, playoffs right around the corner. In the east 1 through 5 separated by 3 points,WOOOOOO TIME TO ROCK AND ROLL http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/cool.gif http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif.
In the west the Bertuzzi incident! The only thing i can say is ''WHAT A PIECE OF SHIT''.Now i like a good hockey fight!I like my chicken spicy and my hockey feisty, but he blew big time and heres why..
1-Retribution my ass, this was the ''SECOND'' game since the marginal hit on Naslund that he himself thought was clean.
2-Cooke called moore out in the first when it was still 0-0,they fought,Cooke got the best of him it's done.Is Moore supposed to fight everyone http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
3-Heat of the moment ''BULL SHIT'',that piece of crap followed Moore around the ice for a good 20 seconds he knew exactly what he was gonna do!!
4-The pile up afterwards or the way he fell! ''BULL SHIT'',had it not been for the sucker punch from behind he never would have been falling unconsience to the ice in the first place.
5-There are no excuses, and like Mcsorley he should be finnished.FUCK HIM!!! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/mad.gif

That's the minimum, he still has to apply to come back sometime during the summer and Moore's condition then could be a determining factor. I can't say for sure how long he should get, but that was the absolute minimum, any less would've been a joke. The true effect of this suspension will be measured by the Canuks playoff performance.

OK I'm here, I had to take a few days to respond, it has been a very depressing devestating few days for me. Not to mention shock, hurt, anger, and every other emotion possible.
Most people would probably think I'm nuts, but you guys will understand, (well somewhat), this hasn't happened to you, but it very easily could in a split second, and a bad decision by Sundin or Hossa. I also make this point because if the shoe were on your foot, you guys would not be saying what you're saying. I can guarantee you that!
I couldn't beleive what I saw, he is my favorite player, and he snapped.
I am in no way condoning what he did, he was an out and out idiot for doing it. But, ok the guy screwed up he's paying for it bigtime, the remainder of the season, the playoffs, which by the way won't be a true judge of how many games he'll miss because we won't make it as far without him, so that isn't a good way to do it anyway. This has basicly made our run for the cup uninspired and probably short, even with adding Sanderson and Rucinsky. Unless of course they can rebound from this and pull it off. These guys were all so tight. I hope they do, this would be a real crummy ending to what has been a real fun ride.
What really piss's me off it the media attention this got, the over exposer and the drama is pathetic. People are saying shit and reacting to stuff they don't know anything about. Especially regarding the culture of the game. Oh my god ban fighting from hockey it's so horrible give me a break, 18,000 fans in every hockey city around the world are cheering on the fights and applading when the other guy goes down. If they'd get rid of the instigater this probably wouldn't have happened anyway.
I wish all the people who aren't hockey fans aren't knowledgeable about the game would just shut their pieholes when it comes to stuff like this.
Well, I for one am not bailing on Bert, the guy crossed the line, screwed up yeah, but no he's not a piece of shit. He's a good guy who made a mistake and he'll have to deal with it.
I think the hardest thing will be having to talk to the lil weasle Bettman again. I mean can you imagine that lil goof deciding your fate, now that would take restraint!
As far as Moore, he's cracked a couple vertabrae, christ they made like "He BROKE" his neck, like he's a quad or something, so sensationalized. The papers were like the Enquirer. He'll be walking out of the hospital in a few days, possibly on skates in 6-8 wks. He'll be fine.
I will be wearing my jersy proud supporting my team!
Oh and further more the cops should stay the hell out of the rink. The league can police there own friggin players! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/mad.gif
PS Shaun: At least we have a team behind our goalie, if Eddy goes down so does the rest of the team, they proved that a couple weeks ago. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif And off your high horses you guys if the shoe were on the other foot........

LOL...LOL...
Well so much for a total thrashing, talk about a super tight game http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif Do they always play that way? I was spectin a great game ba humbug. But hey, that sure was an awesome game between you and the frogs. I managed to do gardening & watch the game at the same time. Made a hell of a mess of the carpet though..from garden to tv.. from t.v. to garden..lol.
Oops, maybe I shouldn't haven't mentioned gardening, aren't you still under snow and ice there http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif
PS: Scott, he's just fine his injuries were totally blown out of proportion. The team made sure of that and the scumbag tabloid reporters made it even worse. They even went to Berts home and were asking neighborhood kids questions. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/mad.gif
As a matter of fact a nurse at the spinal cord unit at the Van Hosp was saying he could have went to Craig days before he did, but the brass told him to stay, ride it out. Canadian press weren't even aloud near him for 3 days. After the hand-picked US press were able to sensationalize it to the max.
Christ, they actually compared his injuries to that of Chris Reeves or something, do you believe it, just what the Av's orginization wanted! There is so much crap coming out about this episode it's not even funny.
Anywho I better stop now or I'll get into everything else, and theres lots, and I just want to focus on the playoffs now. I just hope the dirty laundry all comes out before Bert has to talk to the pencil-neck geekoid!
"Free Bert"
Oh Yeah, one more thing, you guys were talking earlier about when a guy gets tossed, ie Bert's hit on Moore, he should be out as long as player. Well, I used to think that was good too, but it wouldn't work, teams will manipulate the system. Hence: Av's brass is already doing this, now if there was one guy in your division, conference,on the Nucks line-up you would want out for the playoffs who would it be? They're not stupid. Whether or not the player is a willing participant in the scam, he'll do it for the team, hell they could get cash under the table for the deed.
On the other hand, if they were to find a guys value more (ie Moore, not likely, but) to have him on the ice than Bert out of the line-up then he laces up in 6wks, which he could, then Bert should be back too. Would people be happy with that? People would freak, some want him hung till dead, Bettman would freak.
Hence, The Av's are gonna ride this puppy to the moon! You can't do the eye for an eye, it's a business now, everythings done for the corporate crownies. Sadly 99% of people can be bought. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif

Yeah, no one's denying that, It was just so over exagerated, from the hit to the injury it self. It was a joke! I mean CNN. Leno & Regis & ?, over a guy gettin suckered in hockey, give me a break http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif I mean his concussion is probably worse than his headline catching: broken neck (2 fractured vertabre, well, chips off them), facial lacerations (cut from his visor) 3) head injuries a (concussion) I've had all of the above, You?
PS: Yeah c k, he's pretty screwed up too, he's a pretty emotional guy. But of course theres people going on about crocodile tears, typical. Like Big Bert would really want to go on national tv crying his eyes out, http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif Some people are so ignorant.

As someone who has had his shoulder dislocated twice,a broken nose,4 teeth knocked out and numourous stitches playin the magnificent game of hockey. The die-hard Canadian way is the only way to play.Fightin, hittin and bangin is just as much a part of the game as goals. The cases like Moore-Bertuzzi incident are few and far between. If the powers that be want to get rid of all the stupid cheapshots in the game,LOSE THE FRIGGIN INSTIGATOR RULE! Let players police themselves and see how fast respect returns to the game when the Domi's,Worrels and Brookbanks of the NHL are allowed to drop there gloves and dish out justice face to face.

Oh he'll play again, they're just playing it up at long as they can. He could probably lace em up today. Just like in the interview with the BS'ing GM when asked if he could move his arms & legs, he said "I don't know" and 5 mins later he said he was shaking hands with him. It's all such a crock. I just wish all these so called reporters would start revealing this friggin scam sooner than later! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/mad.gif You couldn't even get him out of hiding, so everyone still pictured him half dead. And some still do.
Anywho, had to vent again, couldn't help it. So hey Dennis, big game tommorrow, I don't want to say it, but it's pretty much a given you're gonna take 2 points home tommorrow. Christ we can't even beat the Hawks or the Bluejackets. We're sucking bigtime, I'm pissed, it's like deja-vu from last year, have a great year and choke in the end. Sure Bert's gone, we had injuries but ya suck it up & play better, besides this slides been going on way longer than just Bert. I mean look at the Kings man, look at the adversity they've overcome. These boneheads could sure take a lesson from them. Theres no comparison.
But hey you never know, I can't give up. If they turn it around, tommorrow night would be a good time. We deserve a good game between our teams, we haven't had one yet. And well, if ya do win, right-on I'm sure it will be well deserved, they always work hard. I hope you make the playoffs, and Andy Murray gets coach of the year!
PS: Hey Shaun, just for the record, Belak's head chop was way worse than Bert's sucker punch wouldn't you agree? Oh and the Leafs still suck! And the frogs are gonna take em out in 6 http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif right ck.

I dunno if i'd call the Belak thing worse, but it was just as stupid to do. I can't call it worse because it wasn't pre-meditated, he just swung his stick, he didn't even look at the guy. Bertuzzi planned what he was going to do.
Sticks and fists both have the potential to do a lot of damage, but with fists, you have to try a lot harder to do it.

Holy Cat Man! We won, Dennis, I don't believe it, we actually played with some emotion last night. Man I miss seeing that, it's like no one would hit after Berts ordeal. I feel kinda bad though Dennis it just made your push for the playoffs even harder. It's a drag our feathered friends aren't gonna make them, and you might not either now. I guess if the Pred's and the Blues win tonight it makes it a no go or does it? Go Ducks Go!! Beat them Blues!!
Geez you'll have to become a Nuck fan, and cheer us on to take out those friggin Stars, god I hate them, and they came back and beat the Oil in OT, didn't that just suck! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/mad.gif Actually I guess the Oil getting 1 point sucked more for you.
Then after we take out them we'll probably have to take out the Av's, talk about a rivalry now boy. I absolutely can't stand that orginization now, not so much the players but the staff. It would be nice to really take it to them for the crap they're pulling (4 straight)
But, I would much rather play Bob's Wings, that would be a blast!!! It's always good hockey when we play the ol' timers.
The teams I don't want to have to play are Calgary and Dallas they're too hot right now! On the other hand just cause we played 1 good game doesn't mean we're back on track either. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

Although, we play, as you call them the stinky fish http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif and the Oilers, and the Av's have Columbus & Nashville, pretty good chance of winning both, but then again they're sucking right now. It's karma, pulling what they are with Moore. What comes around goes around. Geez the Sharks are playing so good right now...geez... And the Oil are gonna be desperate to make it in. Talk about stress. Hopefully I won't end up in a nuthouse before the playoffs even start http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
Geez what a hockey day tommorrow, Sens & Philly, Leafs & Buffalo, & Nucks & Sharks. All Huge games hey! Wow all our Canadian teams in playoffs, (hopefully Oilers make it) We need another dish to watch them all. Man, thats gonna be alot of games!
Seems like none of us will know who we play till the last games are done, it's so tight, wild hey. I really hope it's not a Sens/Leaf 1st round, that would suck, cause someones gotta loose, & it will probably be the Leafs http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif
Oh PS: Hey Bob, I'd be worried about winning the Presidents now, it's a jinx.
Oh yeah, can't wait till Sat too, what a double header thats gonna be: Sens/Leafs & Nucks/Oil. Yeah Baby!!!!!!!

Yee-Freakin-Ha!!! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif That was So Sweet! Man, I would have loved to see Lacroix's face when we took our division back! Even better I hope he saw Bert after the game for the fan appreciation enjoying in the celebration. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif Oh yeah, I said I was done talking about the "I'm fortunate to be alive dudette" I'm done, I promise.
Anywho, Yipper, that was so awesome a total reversal of last season, when we lost it in the last game to those guys. This is almost as satisfying as bringing home "Stan the Man" but, I won't know that feels like for a couple more months. Well 16 wins from now actually.
Hey, Shaun, maybe if you come back in the summer to visit or something you might be able to touch it while you're here! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif
Yeah, it was hard to see the Oil out, they worked so hard, to little to late though, what a drag. It was almost hard to watch, well for about 3 seconds. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Well Leafs/Sens, what a drag, I was so hoping for Leafs/Habs series, that woulda been great for a change. But, oh well, it'll
still be good, I bet the Sens are freakin without their goalie, Lalime I think, I forget his name. So are you praying he's healed Nate? Man what shoulda been a playoff preview, it looked pretty bad. I'll say 7 games, either way though. Kinda the same thing, if Eddie gets injured again Leafs are toast too.
PS: I'll 2nd that christophuh, just what the world needs, another Make-me-Laff fan. Oh well Shaun's probably gonna need you in a couple weeks for comfort & support, to help him off his Pain-train, and to put the Blue & White Monster back under it's rock until next season. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif

The regular season is very little indication of what will happen in the playoffs. A couple years ago Ottawa was undefeated in the regular season but got swept in the playoffs.
Also, Ottawa has a very capable backup in Prusek, but like you said, without Belfour, Toronto's screwed.

Well...Gee....I keep tellin myself it ain't over till the fat lady sings...but man they're sure not givin me much to feel positive about. Talk about getting outworked and outhit. This is why I didn't want to play these guys, anybody but. Why must we always get these shi*ty match-ups, last year the boring trapping Wild, this year the ugly Calgary mucker-style hockey.
Calgary's defensive style hockey, and work ethic is outmatching us bigtime. I'm pretty choked, seemed going in on 6 game win streak we might do something even without Bert, but nope. It's like they have nothing left or something. They're just not playing with near the intensity the Flames are, it sucks man! Everyones to blame, scoring has totaly dried up, they're not hittin anymore, they're basicly just floating.
I'd be shocked if they win tonight, unless by some miracle they play the way they can, and should. Who knows, desperate times call for desperate measures. This is so maddening.
"EDDY...EDDY...." You Leafheads are so lucky to have him, if not, you'd be at the station gettin off the "pain-train" untill next year.
PS: christo, yeah Hedberg was a good backup, who knows what Crow was thinking, one things for sure, he's totally screwed Hedbergs confidence now, if he hadn't already. But then again Auld is our goalie of the future, why not throw him in, and see how he does under playoff pressure, he did pretty good actually.
PS: Go Frogs Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, 3 game 7's, awesome hey! I'm actually surprised we've got one, the guys came out to play Sat, Holy Puck! Yee-ha! What a nice goal by Mo to win it with too!
Doesn't it make ya mad though when they don't play the way they can, especially in the playoffs. Like the Leafs, they're suckin, they so don't deserve to win the series, the Sens are totally outplaying them the whole series. Watch tommorrow, Eddy will be stellar again, and stone the Sens and win. So not fair! But hey ya never know. Do you guys beleive that Chara, man, I want one!! Leafs 1 Sens 0. No, wait I changed my mind: (Sens 2 Leafs 1) http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif
Well, tonights the night, huge double header or what. Go Frogs Go!! Hope it doesn't go to OT, I wanna see the whole game. (Frogs 3 Boston 2)
Oh man, then there's ours, I hope they play like Sat.(well, the 1st half of the game & not like the 2nd half). So bring on the valium, pray for good officiating, no injuries and no fluke goals. And may Kipper be Kippersieve like the 1st game! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif I hope Auld isn't a nervous wreck, he's such a good kid, I have faith in him. His dad is a test pilot, so he's got good genes. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Goalies are a whole different breed anyways. Hey Grant... first off.. Congrats on winning the series, the Flames deserved it. They certainly played harder & outworked us. I am especially happy for the fans, it's been a long time a coming. The Saddledome was wild as it was, it's gonna be unreal for the 1st game, I'll be able to hear the fans from here!
And what can you say about Iggy, man what a force out there hey, he is the best player out there today, he doesn't get enough credit that's for sure.
What I meant by boring, is we're used to free flowing, offensive hockey with 2 on 1's, finese, and skill. I find such defensive, mucker hockey bland, because theres no room to do anything, and we couldn't. Don't get me wrong, I love good hard hitting hockey, it's awesome, it's all the rest of it. The Wings are gonna hate it too, it's not their style either.
Anywho, bottom line, Calgary wanted it more and played that way, I was surprised it even went to game 7. The way the Nucks were playing it shouldn't have, they didn't deserve to be there.I'm not to bummed about it though, once we lost Bert, I lost my excitement for doing any damage in the playoffs. I tried to stay positive but I knew deep down we were toast.
So anywho, Go Flames Go.... Bob's Wings just could get clipped if all the Flames get healthy and beat up on the ol' boys like they did us. I'm sure every Canuck goes to bed with ice packs and will be sore for a while.
PS: Ribit Ribit... Right-on Frogs!!! Go Frogs Go!!!
Man, can't wait for Sens-Leaf game, or should I say Sens-Eddy game. It should be awesome, I don't care who wins so I should really enjoy it. Go Sens Go....Go Leafs Go....
Hey Shaun, where are ya buddy? Hiding in your pain train? I actually hope the Leafs do win it cause my hubby's a Leafhead too, and well, I like the players more, even Santa-Domi http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Gee.. I guess I need a new signature...hmmmmmm.......
Oh PS: Thanks gv, I just saw your post...yup it sucks alright, especially when this offseason is gonna be a year and a half. Those guys are so far apart with the CBA, theres no way we'll have hockey next season http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif

Yup, Well Bob, I guess that's a wrap for the ol'boys. They sure looked tired and worn. I wonder how many of them are gonna pack it in? Sure gotta give them Flames credit hey. Also knocking you guys out, doesn't make us gettin knocked out by them so bad. Thanks aye! Man, I bet the fans are callin for heads on platters in Hockeytown.
Shaun, Shaun, Shaun, How did you like your crow again? Maybe you'd prefer a Philly Cheesesteak? http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif What a drag though, after the comeback and, OT & all. I really thought they would come out and dominate (60 mins) after getting spanked like that. So, I changed my bet, I shoulda known better, those freakin Leafs always bugger things up.
On the brighter side Av's are GONE, YEE FREAKIN HAW!!!!!!! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Flames & Sharks, gonna be an awesome series!
As for Burke, I'm choked man, he got a raw deal, he's built this team from a looser to a winner, on & off the ice. He always told it like it was, no bullshit. That coulda been a factor in his demise in the end. What a stupid, stupid move by ownership! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/mad.gif

But hey, the team deserved it, they played better all year, they're the better team. I'm happy for them, especially Andrechuk. Oh & Lacavalier, can you say "dangle". Oh & of course Khabi & his Bulin's. What a great last 10mins aye? Gotta luv this game.

Wow that's cool playing at the Ducks practice rink hey. I checked it out, kids must think it's awesome. Now I understand the name, cute idea for kids, were they Gremlins before they grew up? LOL. Are you coaching again this year?
PS: WC, Where you been? Last I heard you were trying to get tics for a game here.
Weird, as I'm typing this I'm listening to the gut-wrenching last period of game 7 against the Rangers for Lord Stanley 10yrs ago tonight. Sportstalk is having a retro special on the series. Still breaks my heart, yet, gives me goosebumps after all these years just listening to it. What a ride that was. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

MG,
My oldest (10 yrs) plays on 2 teams, I still coach the other one as well as my 6 yr olds. Disney Ice changes the names season to season, this year its all muscles cars - Camaro's, Corvettes, Chevelles, etc.
Its fun for them to play as Disney Ice, we watch some of the Ducks practices there during the season. He definately likes to share the same crease as Giggy!

MG,
Another die hard Canuck fan here and if there is season this year it makes you wonder where hockey is headed..down the toilet?
As for Bertuzzi being charged I have seen worse hits with only a 4 minute major handed out. Was it the hit or just that Moore landed hard ending up with a bad neck injury? I'm not condoning the hit but if Moore had hit the ice rolled over and started fighting back what would Bertuzzi got then?
Lets hope we get a season this yearhttp://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

1)So, I never knew retribution had a time limit, ...maybe in la la la leafland!

3)Yeah... he got so tired of trying to call out the lil chickenshit, he finally snapped. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif
4)Yeah, So, You can bet the most damage was done when 10 freakin guys piled on him.

Time limit on retribution? no i guess it's cool to wait till two games later when your being humiliated in your own rink to all of sudden decide it's about something else.It was such a foul hit on Naslund it took two gamse and humiliation to bring it out eh!
What the hell does it matter who he fought.Cooke stepped up like a man,toe to toe, drop the gloves lets go! Atta boy cooker thats the way a man does it.MG would you like to compare fighting major stats between Cooke and Moore. What kind of argument is this.I was watching the game and Bertuzzi never tried to instigate a fight until he decided it suited him,and we all know what happen.
As for Moore suing Bertuzzi and the league,i was unaware of all this please provide some links. The Crown is prosocuting Bertuzzi based on there evidence,it has nothing to do with Moore same as the Heatly case.Your animossity toward Steve Moore is baffling,he did nothing but take a punch, and like i said when he's playing hockey again i may change my opinion..

I use to love hockey when I was younger and given that the Blackhawks are an original team we had so much history in Chicago. Now I don't really care if they ever come back. Very sad. Hopefully they will come back and we can get rid of our horrible owner Wirtz (Dollar Bill) as he is called here. He still refuses to put home games on TV even though the Hawks HAD sold out almost every game (until lately). I think the Hwaks actually had the professional team record in all sports for making the playoffs (something like 29 years in a row) now they are so bad they've made the playoofs once in like 8 years. Where's Bobby Hull when you need him.

PS: Yeah Steve, I've felt your pain, who knows, maybe when they do sort all this out, & a few teams get the boot, a cap comes in, all the teams will get better, including the Hawks. I hope so, I've always had a place in my heart for them, since I was a kid I guess. Every year I root for them. Ya i think McCabe got a little much but i also believe after the season he had last year that if JFJ had let it go to arbitration,he probably would have been looking at Gonchar kinda of money around 5-5.5 a season. So i'll wait and see how he handles the raise before i get to upset.Pronger is worth a lot a cash but if your lookin for a D-man he's worth every bill.I cant wait to see what Chara is worth after abitration.

Superfan joins Canadians in frustration
Associated Press
9/19/2004
CALGARY (CP) - From the plains of Nebraska, Ron Erickson shares the withdrawal pain of millions of Canadian hockey fans as they face a yawning winter with no NHL.
Erickson has season tickets for four NHL teams, including the Calgary Flames and the Edmonton Oilers.
"It drives me crazy," moaned Erickson, who has seen 80 games a year for the last five seasons as he and wife Barbara criss-cross North America to watch their favourite teams.
"We don't really like to watch hockey on TV," said Erickson, a burly man with a ready smile. "We like to go to the arenas and have good seats close to the action. We just can't quite get enough of it."
As soon as the NHL schedule comes out in July, the couple hunkers down in their Scottsbluff, Neb., home to plot out when they will be watching the Flames, Oilers, Detroit Red Wings and Dallas Stars.
But all that was shelved this week when team owners locked the players out. They say they need a new deal on salaries to keep the league from drowning in red ink.
Some say the entire season is in jeopardy.
"We're stuck," Erickson said late last week during a cellphone call while en route to Dallas. "Even if they re-start the season I'm not sure we can do it. We won't get good airline rates. If they start the season in January, we're screwed."
Even by booking hotels and cars in advance and flying in off-hours, it's a pricey addiction which costs the couple $20,000 US a year.
Last spring, the Ericksons saw 20 of the Flames' 27 playoff games - including all seven in the Stanley Cup final against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Erickson's fanaticism has been known to raise eyebrows and draw smiles.
Like in Tampa Bay, where he arrived at the arena hours before the games decked out in Roman Turek's used goalie gear, which was purchased at an equipment auction held for Flames season ticket holders.
And while Erickson admits he may be a tad extreme, he said the league has underestimated how many people travel to cheer on their teams.
"There's going to be an economic impact on all 30 NHL cities," he said. "There are a lot of fans who come in from out of town for games. It's going to hurt hotels and restaurants, rent-a-cars and airlines." <
The Ericksons' connection with Alberta teams came after they travelled to all NHL arenas and found they had the most fun in Calgary and Edmonton.
The fans, raised on pond hockey and Hockey Night In Canada, had a love and understanding of the game's nuances often lacking in U.S. rinks.
"The knowledge of the American fans is not good," said Erickson, who grew up Michigan.
Like many Canadian fans, Erickson also has strong feelings about the lockout.
"I'm 100 per cent for the owners and zero per cent for the players union," he said. "The owners should not have to give 73 per cent of their revenues to the players. It's not right for Detroit or Colorado (Avalanche) to have double the payroll, then have teams that are trying hard like Carolina (Hurricanes) and Atlanta (Thrashers) lose money."
But Erickson is prepared to forgive and forget once the puck is dropped again.
"I'm one of the fans who takes it in the stomach and comes back just as enthusiastic as I was before," he said. "I'll get kicked in the head for the season and I'll be back."
And if he can't be there, at least Erickson has a rather large reminder of his favourite sport stored in his warehouse: a Zamboni purchased at a Wyoming rink this spring and now covered with Flames stickers.
Of course, there is no ice within 160 kilometres of Scottsbluff, so the ice-surfacing machine is more something for the grandchildren to crawl over. But Erickson is hoping to add some Oilers paraphernalia to it and drive it in local parades as a tribute to Canada and hockey.

Hey, is anybody watching this? :
http://www.makingthecut.ca
It looks pretty good so far, it should be good, I like the concept. There's a few guys that look pretty good, and they only focused on a few tonight.
Besides, anything hockey right about now is a good thing wouldn't you agree?

WOW!! This threads been sorta busy....Where have i been you might wonder..(or not http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif)..
After the whole 1/2 hour of enjoyment i got out of watching Canada going undefeated to win the World Cup,reality sunk in and i realized that may have been the last game of the year.So ive been curled up in the fetal position behind my couch sobbing uncontrollably....wont someone hold me...please...
Ya,Making The Cut was pretty good.Better than i thought it would be.Like you said MG ''anything hockey right now''.I thought Betman did an excellent job on The National.I dont care for him all that much, but he impressed me last night. What did you think MG? What side are people taking around here?
Goodenow is on tonight.I think/hope hes gonna get absolutely FILLETED by people.I think the players and there 70% of revenues can kiss my paralyzed ass.Evrytime i hear one of those greedy bastards say ''we love the game'' it makes me want to puke.
''who is the league to dictate what were worth'',ive heard this a half dozen times now....ASK THE FANS...Ask the father makin 10 bucks an hour who cant afford to take his kids to a stinkin hockey game...Ask the people who play it cause the love it still..WHL,OHL etc..etc.....Let em go! Let the contracts fold one by one and bring up the AHL...Let em go! Bring in the replacement players right now..
If they want to change things, then do it.Shit or get off the pot...I want my Hockey season.I would love to watch the AHL games.Scoring,fighting....AWWWW SHIIIIITTTT...Bring it on.

This whole thing is driving me nuts. Goodenow is on t.v. as I speak and I'd just like to give the guy a swat. Bettman said its up to the players to start talking. Goodenow says its up to the owners. Mansbridge says isn't it up to both of you? This is FUBAR. I am not on either side but as an Oiler fan its pretty tough to side with the players. Took my son to a game last year in Edmonton. Cost me 160.00 for both seats and I had to look through that fricken net. To top it off the game sucked. Rather watch a senior game here in Saskatchewan.

Yes... Finally ...Season kicks off tonight we're in St.Jose, those stinky fish are going down!!!! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gifNucks:3 Sharks:1 Should be a great game. Thank god Berts been reinstated, he'll have his work cut out for him though with Scotty Hanon shadowing him. Scotty's gonna be even better now after his World cup stint!
Dan the Man is between the pipes tonight, with a healthy Sami Salo to start infront of him for the 1st time in months due to his back injury.
The twins are pumped, they've both bulked up in time for the season opener, should be interesting to watch the difference poundage can make with these guys.
Jovo Cop's injury has healed well from the Canada Cup spill, he's roaring to get back playing in the regular season. He says he's stronger than ever, and can't wait to hit the ice.
Morrison and Naslund say they have been anticipating tonights game all summer, and are thankful everyone put their peckers in their pants intime for the regular season start date.
So here we go guys, finally the hockey season is finally here.... http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif Game On....Yee-Ha!!!!!!!!!!!

Who gives a puck? Obviously not too many. This is from the Chicago SunTimes today...
Wednesday, the day the season was scheduled to start, 1,200 Americans were asked to comment on the NHL lockout. More than half had no idea the league is in a labor mess. Worse, only 6 percent indicated they would have "great interest'' in the league if and when it returns.

It's a little bit different here up North. I think the strike is going to kill the NHL as we know it. The high costs of maintaining an ice rink are too much for those hot cities down south. And frankly, people just don't care about hockey down there.
Hockey will have to go smaller, with smaller salaries, and smaller, more sellable markets. Maybe it can become our sport again.

A few years ago I sat next to the guy who designs/builds most of the major ice rinks for the NHL 3 or 4 times on flights from Chicago to Oklahoma City. Oklahoma City was building a rink to try and get a NHL team. The initial costs are pretty high too.
Christopher - I agree with you except for the smaller markets but I think the NHL needs to go back to about 10 fewer teams.

Well, I did like the guys at TSN, TSN Solution (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=100496&hubName=nhl), especially the qualifing offer, it's a joke right now.. you could absolutely suck and still get a hefty raise, that's bogus! Salary arbitration is a joke!
The luxury tax still won't stop the Rangers and Av's and the Leafs, but at least it will help even the feild a lil bit more. The cap is a must, players have to do it. They're loosing this battle. Everyone I know is givin the edge to the owners, all the talk shows, papers, mags, they are gonna to have to give in.
Geez though, GV & Westcoast must be worried, talk is the Duckheads may fold along with a few others after all is said & done. We do need to cut teams but geez that would sure suck for fans of those teams hey.
I also wish Linden wasn't president, he's such an awesome guy, but he's Goodenow's puppet, & he's really taking shit around here on the talk shows. I wish he'd step down, he's been so loved here, he does so much for the kids & the community, wouldn't want it to change.

Ya i liked TSN's solution,i thought it was great....but oh well...who am i...just a FAN.I wish some of the players would speak out for the FAN...Theres gotta be some players out there im sure who give a shit whats happening.
I think the only person who could maybe get things moving here because of the respect level he has from both sides of the table is Gretzsky.Come on oh great one...save our season..

The funny thing is that when you listen to all the "sports experts" in the States they all say that out of all the sports, the NHL players seem to the the ones most connected to the fans, readily available to do interviews, etc. Seems like they need to use this as a starting point and leverage it somehow.
What I think was/is a major problem is the fact that everyone knew this was coming like 12-18 months ago. All the talk I ever heard over the past year or so was that there would be a lockout and it would be long. That in itself is a major problem from 1) a negotiation point of view - IMO it established a mindset between players and owners before anything ever happended, and 2) you got a lot of fans presupposed to the idea and a lot of time to get to a point where they "readily accepted" it. Of course, the real die hard fans will be passionate about their game. But, the fact that only 6% of 1200 American fans polled said they would come back with "great interest" will be a major problem going forward for the sport. I listen to quite a bit of sports talk while in my car and in rare instances when the lockout is brought up its for 10-15 seconds and its a big joke.
Not certain how to solve this accept to maybe get an impartial 3rd party in to work for the best interests of the fans. I don't think the owners would go for this. Othewise, I still predict no NHL for 18 months.
