It is a great form of recreation. Here are a couple of sites. www.freedomryder.com (http://www.freedomryder.com) www.invacare.com (http://www.invacare.com) on the invacare site go to the Handcycle section. Hate that name "invacare" wish they would change it. Curtis

Wow - I'm glad someone finally said it! What are they thinking? I've owned their products for a long time but never could figure it out. I bet we could send them 790 emails and make them seriously consider if that name makes sense!

For about a hundred bucks plus a couple hundred in shipping you can get the bike of your dreams made in the Philippines. It'll be steel instead of titanium but it'll last a good long time and cost you a lot less. You can send them the specs, including a picture, and that's it! Done!! The seat will be adjustable, the pedals modified foot pedals, and it will roll better than conventional bikes.
Shoot me an email if interested - I'll dig up their card. I'll also try to find a photo of the one they made me.

My son can pedal a mountain bike; however, he can't stop himself or brake himself with his legs. My husband runs along side him... quite the positive sight. Jeff, do you think this company you mentioned that modifys handcyles could make something like training wheels for a person 6 foot person? This might help him bike without assistance. Thanks, Alice
That's a good idea.
My nephew, 2.5 yo, was having a hard time with the training wheels on a new bike I got him. It was painful for me because I so wanted him to be able to ride it. After falling over a few times he was just too afraid to ride his little bike, plus the bike tipped from side to side. I went to inquire about better training wheels. Well, for $10.00 this company made him a little side car for his bike. It was really stable and absolutely adorable to see him pedaling around with a little girl in the sidecar. He got much stronger very quickly and began riding that bike everywhere. And he was so little!
In the Philippines they don't have a lot of consumer products so if you have the money [very little by our standards], you just have someone make what you need. They can make anything. They make jeeps by hand for $2,000.00. It's amazing. I'll find the picture of my handcycle they made by hand and you'll be surprised.
Most of the bikes in the Philippines have sidecars attached so if you wanted one they could just ship it to you. The shipping, however, would cost several times the $12.00 cost of the sidecar.

Hey Jeff!
Did you ever post a pic or the address of the guys in the Phillipnes who built your handcycle?
If you like you can email me at home!
Thanks
Brock
I lost the pic of my handcycle and still can't find those guys' address. I was going to make them a web site so they could sell stuff on the net but they haven't emailed me, yet. I have enough things to do now, anyway.
These guys were definitely amazing though. They built the frame from scratch. They did use some parts: wheels/tires/sprockets/pedals and chain. They used foam and vinyl to make the seat and it came out perfect. It looked really professional. I didn't like the hand brake but they couldn't get a pedal-backward-brake kinda hub without ordering it from Japan and that would have increased the cost. So...for a hundred bucks I had a great bike while I was over there. And some relatives are keeping it for me for when I'm over there on vacations.
I'll have someone over there dig up their address if anyone wants to order a bike from them. A US made bike would be better if you have the cash, but if not it's a pretty good option.

For anyone about 5'2" or shorter there's a Lil' Excelerator on Ebay right now for $800. That'll save you a little money. Maybe some of you ladies are short enough.

Hi Jeff,
Can you tell me how could I contact those guys from the Phillipines about a handcycle? What they offer seems very very interesting for me.
Thanks,
Vlady

If there is anyone out there that would be interested in a Quickie Mach2 Handcycle. I have one I can part with. :)
However, I am located in Orange County CA.
Can discuss shipping options.
