This group in Kiev claims to have an "embryonic stem cell" therapy for a variety of diseases and conditions. Their web site suggests that they have a 13-year experience with this therapy. They claim beneficial effects of the treatment on a large number of diseases including various cancers, diabetes mellitus, severla neurological disorders, "aging problems", and immune deficiency.

Although the web site does not describe the therapy in detail, the cells appear to be from aborted fetuses and the cells are injected intravenously. There are not many publications of the clinical studies but the group has filed for several patents including two U.S. patents:

Medicinal preparation based on fetal cell suspension having immune substituting effect for patients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV infection) by Smikodub; Alexandr Ivanovich (Kiev, UA) (http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=/netahtml/search-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=ptxt&s1=smikodub&OS=smikodub&RS=smikodub)

Pharmaceutical preparation based on fetal suspension and methods of treating acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV injection) by Smikodub; Alexandr Ivanovich (Kiev, UA); Markov; Igor Semenovich (Kiev, UA); Pilipchak; Elena Makarovna (Kiev, UA) (http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=/netahtml/search-bool.html&r=2&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=ptxt&s1=smikodub&OS=smikodub&RS=smikodub).

To treat HIV, for example, they use a cell suspension from a 7-week old human fetus. The suspension includes human hematopoietic liver cells and human hematopoietic spleen cells, colony forming units of granulocyte/macrophage, monocytes and macrophages, megakaryocyte, and CD34 positive cells. They use 5-200 million cells.

They claim that the cells penetrate into various organs and into the brain and spinal cord.
