Pulmonary Function - Exercise - Snoring Research
Attention All People with Spinal Cord Injury
Come participate in our spinal cord injury research study! We are asking individuals who are at least 20 years of age and at least one year post injury to volunteer for our study.
Since we began in 1994, we have tested over 350 people with spinal cord injuries. Participants have come from the VA Hospital, the National Spinal Cord Injury Association, and wheelchair sports teams, making our study one of the largest of its kind. The information from the study may help improve the health care of people with spinal cord injuries in healthcare systems across the country. From the data we have gathered thus far, we have published papers on snoring, exercise, pulmonary function and other issues relevant to SCI. To continue the success of this project we need your help!
If you have already participated in the Spinal Cord Injury study at the West Roxbury, Massachusetts, V.A. Medical Center more than two years ago we need you to come back to be retested!
If you have not yet participated we always need new patients, so come in!
Your participation would require a time commitment of two to three hours. The research takes place in Room 2D-102 on the second floor in the middle building of the West Roxbury V.A. Medical Center. You will need to fill out a questionnaire about your spinal cord injury, breathing and medical history. Then your height, weight and armspan will be measured. Finally you will be asked to perform some standard pulmonary breathing tests. None of the tests are invasive in any way, no needles, tubes or drugs.
Fifty dollars compensation for your time and travel is available.
If you have any questions about the study, please email Dr. Eric Garshick, Principal Investigator, at eric.garshick@med.va.gov.
To schedule an appointment, email Allison Papageorge at papageorge.allison@boston.va.gov
or call(617)323-7700, ext 5126.
We look forward to hearing from you
