EXCITE - Extremity Constraint Induced Therapy

A new therapeutic approach to rehabilitation of movement, is beginning pilot work using the CI Therapy protocol to increase the function of the lower extremities in individuals with incomplete spinal cord injury . This therapy has been used, with promising results, to improve the function of of the lower extremity in people who have had a stroke.
* To qualify for the study, participants must meet the following criteria: must be at least one year post spinal cord injury
* spinal cord injury must be motor incomplete (Frankel Grade C or D)
* must have retained some lower extremity movement
* must be able to maintain unsupported sitting balance independently for 5 minutes
* must meet flexibility requirements
* must not be participating in formal a Physical or Occupational Therapy program or other research projects
* must not have any medical conditions which would make it unsafe for individual to participate
Individuals who qualify will receive free therapy for approximately three and a half weeks, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. For more information, please call Danna Kay King, PT at 205-975-9799. or visit the Excite web site
