How to gain weight?

I don't want to hijack the other topic about appetite but how can I gain weight? I have been underweight since my SCI. I do not have the appetite but I eat and I drink protein drinks. But still, I don't gain any kg.

I am 1,71 m and 55 kg and I know it is not to much but it is impossible to gain more.

Like I said in the Appetite topic, I can eat a lot if somebody serve me the food or if I eat in a restaurant, but at home, I am not hungry.

Protein alone is not enough. You need calories too. How many calories a day do you get? In order to gain weight, you need to take in more calories than you burn.

It is generally better to be a little underweight if you have a SCI, and you may put on fat but not muscle by gaining. Never the less, you need to have sufficient blood proteins to keep your skin and muscles in good shape.

Do you have access to a dietitian who could help you with a healthy plan for putting on a little weight?

I have been to a dietitian and the only thing she said was to eat 5 times a day and eat all the chocolate and candy you want. I eat all the candy I want, it is not to much, and I can't make food and eat five times a day.

Lady from Europe your not looking at right place. How about Netherland which is noted for marijuana cafes? Ask the good doctor or apothocary.

WFE, I'd be glad to 'brainstorm' some food preparation ideas with you, as I've had experience in the food business with catering and such, and am a pretty avid 'foodie' and cook!
