Have you jumped on the tapas bandwagon yet?

Here in the States, tapas restaurants have been gaining in popularity over the last few years; the term has come to refer loosely to a grazing style of dining based on sampling a wide variety of small dishes. The food served in these establishments ranges from authentic Spanish fare to creative fusions that draw on Mediterranean, Asian or even American cuisines (for instance, one hotel in New York serves bite-size hamburgers, knishes and other Big Apple staples). At restaurants claiming to serve tapas, cicchetti (Venetian), meze (Greek) or mezze (North African and Middle Eastern), the food tends to stick to its regional roots, whereas the labels "small dishes" or "small plates" often signal a more eclectic or American approach. Traditional or innovative, the cuisines served in these tapas-style eateries share one common denominator: dishes smaller than entrees that are meant to be shared.
