If I eat another piece of pepperoni pizza, I'm going to die! It's all my children will eat, so when we have one delivered, that's what we get. So last night I was fantasizing about a REAL pizza ... the fresh dough crust, fresh ingredients, some crazy stuff thrown in.

I'm in a barbecue chicken pizza phase right now. Deano's (best pizza in town) makes an awesome one with sliced purple onions on top. In fact I kept a box of it in the fridge at work during my appetite struggles. Knowing that pizza was there inspired eating again! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

So I want to hear about your favorite pizza combos and where you like to eat it/order it from.

Dominos!?! DA, you are about to be banished from the Food forum! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

Uh ... but, is it really good? Wonder if my children will eat it ...

Steven, Andolini's is in Charleston? Makes mental note for next visit.

Yup. Two that I know of. One downtown, one in West Ashley. I always eat downtown because it's right next to CofC, the staff has a very hippy/reggae vibe, and the... er, customers are pretty darn nice to look at. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

I don't like weird stuff on my pizza. Italian sausage and black olives is just fine for me.

Ohio, pineapple on there sounds awesome! I've had that somewhere, can't remember, but I loved the contrasting flavors. Yum!

That potato pizza sounds interesting too. I've never had anything like that before.

If we could all go out for pizza in my hometown, I'd definitely take you to Deano's. They've got some great combinations, very generous with the toppings. They're not a fancy, gourmet place, but here, where cooking and eating GOOD FOOD is a top priority, they've made sure they do it right. They've been in business 30 years now. We locals know it's THE place for pizza.

DA and Emi, if Domino's philly steak pizza can bring the two of you together, I just may have to try one! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

My buddies pizza place by me makes an Alfredo pizza. Instead of normal tomato sauce he uses alfredo sauce and with some extra garlic is fantastic.

2nd favorite I would have to agree with Martha on the BBQ chicken pizza

lol i know its sounds odd. the guy i was dating for awhile has a boy age 8, i had him one day for lunch and he insisted on pizza, i was in the mood so i said sure. little did i know he wanted potato pizza! he ate 3/4 of the pizza! i wouldnt even touch it. then the next time we got it i tried a tiny piece, it was actually good! kinda tasted like a peirogie.

mmmmmmmmm.........now i am in the mood for pizza!

Dang almost forgot about the stuffed crust pizza.

This pizza is not what you would call healthy but sausage and regular bacon is just so damn good.

Ohio- Having homemade peirogie today at my grandmas house...

Polish Pizza!!!

The first resturaunt I worked at I was limited to the fryers and Pizza. It has no red sauce, you use sour kraut and a heavy coat of butter. Any toppings you want.

Since we no longer have Godfather's here, Pizza Hut deep-dish chicken/mushroom/jalapino pizza.

When I lived in Denver there was a local joint off 71 that was awsome, can't remember the name. All their pizza was great.

I'm with Steven on the NY-style thin, crispy/chewy crust! And they opened an Andolini's here in Mt. Pleasant, too! There's a restaurant, Benito's, two Jersey guys who decided to move here and reap the benefits of the South - their pizza is pretty awesome, brick-oven NY style.

My fave? Toss up between pepperoni and onion with hot pepper flakes shaken on top, and the classic 'pizza Margherita' - sliced summer tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil - simple and elegant!

We ordered a barbecue chicken pizza from Pappa John's this weekend. I didn't know they made one ... maybe just in Houston, not back in the swamps. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

It was good!

GoFig ... as much as I love the Cajun cuisine around here, sometimes you just need a pizza. But not any pizza mind you. So most of the locals go to Deano's. They offer some great varieties with a Cajun flair. In fact one is called The Cajun Terminator--lots of meat, jalepeno peppers, etc. One of my favorites is also Marie Leveau (the vodoo queen) which features crab meat, etc. YUM!!

Martha- I'm with ya. I love some BBQ chicken pizza. California Pizza Kitchen (http://www.cpk.com/index.cfm) makes a great one with purple onions you can get at a grocery store. I have yet to find a pizza place around here that makes a good BBQ chicken pizza. But, I am still looking. I haven't had one with pineapple. But, yuuumm I bet that would be good. I love cooked pineapple.

"Mom and LJ's On the Barbeque Greek Pita Pizza"

Spread cream cheese seasoned with your favorite greek type herbs ie: dill, a little extra virgin olive oil, garlic etc. on a small pita bread. Top with black olives, tomatoes, green peppers, green onion tops, feta cheese .... Place on grill and cook just long enough to heat through ! Serve with an icy cold glass of Jackson Triggs chardonnay ( icy cold juice box for LJ of course) ......... http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif Woah Momma .... life is good http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

P.S. Forgot to mention ... must add ambience ... smoldering camp fire surrounded by Saskatoon bushes, utterly magnificent trees with a little poison ivy for excitement . muffled voices from other camp sites and a canopy of stars (maybe as many as in Texas even http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif ) ....

I will revive this old thread because of my disbelief at the boring pizzas you guys seem to like. My favorite pizza is the one my dad makes for me:

Home-made base, with a bottle of beer thrown in to help it rise.
Special sauce consisting of: tomato paste, chilli sauce, garlic, herbs, pepper.
Toppings: ham, pepperoni, prawns, mushrooms, capsicums, jalapenos, onion (pickled are best), pineapple, olives, cheese, oregano, a little bit of Tabasco sauce and some more pepper. Absolutely cannot be beaten in my opinion.
Only problem is it's tough to keep all the topping on the slice :-).

Edit: I forgot tomato as a topping as well http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Tank! Sounds awesome! Yeah, our pizza sounds seriously boring compared to yours. Thanks for sharing your topping ideas, but I demand the recipe for your pizza crust/base.

And what are capsicums?

Hello Martha, glad you like the sound of it http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
Capsicums are the same as peppers I'm pretty sure.
As for the recipe for the base, I'm not entirely sure because I haven't made it for years since my accident. I think it is very similar to this recipe:
http://www.greenchronicle.com/recipes/pizza_base.htm
Except that you use a little less yeast, and substitute it with a 375 ml bottle of beer. It gives it a very nice flavour.

I live in a small town in New Jersey (The one Springsteen is referring to in "My Hometown"). They seem to have a long tradition of thin crust pizza here. We get it from a place in town that's been there since the 1920's. It's exquisite.
