Banana Bread that makes you legendary

350 for 1 hr
2 1/2 cups of flour
1 tsp of salt
2 tsp of baking soda
1 cup regular shortening
2 cups of sugar
2 cups of ripe mashed bananas (6 bananas)
4 eggs slightly beaten

mix sugar shortening and eggs first. Then add bananas. Then add the rest of the ingredients. Spray pan with spam and pour batter. Then bake. You'll have a line of open mouths waiting just from the smell.

If I have them around, I like to throw in about of cup of pecans or walnuts when I make banana bread.

Lard. Also known as animal fat.
We don't use it much anymore for anything at all. Only Canola and Olive oils.

It makes for the best tasting stuff around..but clogs the arteries.

I don't really know how to explain shortening. It's a fat I think. It's solid comes in a can. Crisco.... when heated melts....... on the can it said less fat than margarine. Hope that helps.

Lindox, 'shortening' is made from vegetable fats, ie Crisco, etc. Lard is the animal fat.

While some folks have objections to the use of lard, I believe I read somewhere that it actually has less fat and calories than shortening - don't quote me, tho; I'll try to find the source if you like.
