I have had veggies for years. This year I am planning a section for herbs. This is what I was going to start with Pats Garden (http://www.parkseed.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreCatalogDisplay?storeId=10101&catalogId=10066&langId=-1&mainPage=prod2working&ItemId=90089)
What do you have in yours? Shouls I go with containers or in ground?

Pat, I am really sorry that you are already married!! Woodworking,Baking, Gardening-you are like WONDERFUL!!!
I find container or raised beds are easiest to work with. Don't forget Rosemary-she always looks good in a garden and lasts for years. My parsley is still green, even after this wintry weather. I think someone told me that you should reseed every year though, because it starts changing flavor, anyone know for sure? I plant it as a border around two flower beds and the bright green color sets off the colors of the flowers. Back in Wisconsin I used Marigolds to border the garden, to keep out pests.
Parsley, Basil, Dill, Oregano, Cilantro, Rosemary, Chives are my favorites.
Another plus with container gardens is bringing it in in the fall.

I have sage, Italian parsley, basil, 3 different kinds of thyme, rosemary, tarragon, marjoram and oregano, chives and garlic chives, mint and a little bay tree.
Re containers, herbs like oregano and thyme, parsley and chives will do okay in the winter in the ground; you can plant the more 'tender' herbs in the ground during the summer, then move them to containers to overwinter.

I live in Germany and I have a raised herb bed with coriander, sage, rosemary (two types), lemon balm, lavender, parsley, basil and dill. I do have problems growing basil though.
I was inspired to grow herbs by Culpeper's Complete Herbal, which I found online at Complete Herbal (http://www.complete-herbal.com).

Patrick - How'd your garden do this year? I'm having trouble realizing just how much the heat here affects the veggies - seems like I spend half the day watering outside! And looking forward to getting some fall crops going, when it gets a little cooler.

I would definitely go for containers.
I have had a really successful year this year, but some of the herbs are quite greedy and they are now taking over the garden.
My neighbour (who I can barely understand - I am in Germany) keeps telling me to remove the weeds (Krauter). Oops!

sorry it took so long to get back to you Marm. I dont come on CC but every two weeks or so anymore. The garden did great! I had so many tomatoes this year even the neighbors were turning them down. And my clematis went crazy! I bet it grew thirty feet this year. I cant wait for spring to see all the flowers. I will look for pics from this year and compare how much it grew. The herbs did good. I have lots of bay leaves, oregeno, tyme, rosemary, garlic chives and onion chives. Our rabbit goes nuts over the garlic chives. I dont have to worry about her running away because she goes right to the garden.

Good to hear from you, Patrick! We were starting to wonder if maybe you did a 'Jack and the Beanstalk' thing and hadn't come down from the giant's home yet, lol!
I'm still adjusting to how plants react to the heat down here, and there was a big 'tomato blight' everywhere locally, so my tomatoes didn't do too well. But there's always next year!
Are you drying/freezing any of your herbs?
