SCI-Nurse

We are considering adding a list of SCI physicians as recommended by users of these forums. We would also like to include a list of physicians who are board certified in SCI medicine if we can obtain it from the AAPMR.
Physicians would not be "rated" nor would comments be included (don't want anyone accussed of libel), but we would hope to make it searchable by location. It would be moderated/managed by the SCI-Nurse panel. Please indicate if you would be interested below:
I would be interested in other specialists with experience in SCI such as urologists, etc.

I am happy wth my physiatrist but would be interested in other doctors, ie; orthopedist, out patient rehab clinics, pain management centers, etc. While my PM&R doc is great, I don't always care for who he refers me to. We are keeping an open dialogue as to what traits I prefer in a doctor and he is trying to match those with my referrals.

There seem to be an overwhelming support for this service. Perhaps we can start by setting up a forum called Physicians... People can post the names, specialty, and contact information for physicians that they think are good. These postings can be compiled along with information from other sources, providing a state-by-state searchable database...

Dr. Young, I will be in touch with you next week after discussion on this with the other SCI-Nurses.
I would definitely use a directory of SCI qualified physicians. Finding one where I live is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

How hard would it be to add the insurance companies these doctors participate in?
A personal recommendation from a member would be great but would it not be prudent to contact the doctor to see if they are accepting new patients?
If the doctors are not accepting new patients could we list the group the doctors are associated with to find out if other doctors in the practice are accepting new patients?
These are just a few questions/suggestions that come to mind immediately.

Some states are beginning to list doctors and any disciplinary actions against them. I believe Virginia has this listed on an internet site but it's a self-reporting mechanism and many docs will not list their malpractice suits even if they win or there are extenuating circumstances.
If any woman needs a referrel to a neuro-urologist I know a good one and he's done almost all his work on women after SCI. He's a member of the Johns Hopkins network in northern Baltimore at the Bayview facility.
Nice thing about a list here is I doubt anyone would refer a doc they've seen that is lousy. LOL

I am working on a way to have people post information about physicians that they recommend. It occurred to me that it may be easier to have people sending email to a designated information collector and for that person to put together the SCI Physician's Directory.

OK, I have started a new forum called Doctors & Centers. This is a place where you can recommend doctors or centers. Please enter the name of the doctor or center, the city, and state (country) in the topic name. Enter the name of the doctor or center, the address including telephone number and other contact information, web addresses, specialty, and comments concerning why you recommend the doctor or center. From the posted information as well as lists from other sources, we will generate a recommended doctor & center directory. Let us see how this works. Please remember that this is a forum for recommending doctors not for listing bad doctors or centers. Thanks.
