Some of you know I have an older powerchair, given to me by a neighbor.
It looks like this, if you haven't seen it:

I never intended to hop in it and drive around, as the thing isn't built to my body size, and thus I risk all the wonderful things associated with incorrect seating, wrong footrest length, etc.
I had in mind to "adapt" it to help me carry heavy things, unload the van in one trip, that sort of thing.
Anyway, long story short, turns out when he said "give" he really meant "borrow". So, I'm going to give it back and be done with it. (After I spent $200 on batteries, mind you)

So......I still want to build my "powermule". It would be sweet to be able to move heavy things up and down my Ramp Of Death (http://krstofer.org/deathramp.jpg) by myself, make my 54 pound welder mobile (http://www.mylincolnelectric.com/Catalog/equipmentdatasheet.asp?p=7082), make it to the laundry-mat in one trip, and various other things.

So last night I had an idea. Maybe someone out there has an old parts-chair they might be willing to let me have for a small fee. Of course I will pay shipping, and all the parts I really need are the joy-stick and motor control box, and possibly the motors-and-drivewheels assemblies.
I can weld together a custom frame suitable to my applications, and I allready have the batteries.
If someone has just the joystick and control box, I can get motors fairly easily from e-bay, and build my own drive-wheel assemblies, but I'd rather not, just to save some fabrication time.

I am willing to buy the parts outright, or trade all or part for computer parts- I have several SCSI drives, pII (slot) motherboards, 168 pin ram, video cards, a ZIP drive, and a few older cd-roms.

I have a conversion ActionPatriot wheelchair modified with a Damco Power Unit (1995). The company went out of business, but the joystick and power mechanisms, batteries [ 2 wet cell ] and battery charger work. I replaced it December 18, 2003 with a Quickie V-121 because the drive unit broke off the main motor after a truck hit our van. It shook us (hubby & me), but threw my chair across the rear of our van. My husband is a sheet metal journeyman and wanted to fix it for me, but I opted for a new one. The parts can be used to canabolize whatever. So, if you are still interested, let me know. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gifOriginally posted by krstofer:
