View Full Version : My kitchen arrived!!!
My kitchen arrived and I'm SUPER happy! Still a couple of weeks and everything's ready and I can go and live on my own. I'm soooo excited! Wanted to share some pics of the hopefully mega-practical kitchen (better start learning to cook now)!

great pics! some questions:
did you have to remodel?
or get it built like that?
what's the height of your counters?
what company did you work with?

Absolutely gorgeous! And now for the real question ... can you cook? lol
To answer Bridget's questions:
I'm having the house newly built, so also the kitchen is new. I went to a regular shop that makes kitchens (so not the Ikea idea where everything is pre-made)(another option was a cabinetmaker). Although it was the first time they made a kitchen for someone in a wheelchair, they had some good input (bin on wheels that goes just under the tables so you don't have to wheel around with dirt in your hands but put the bin wherever you need it http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif). I thought about the set-up a lot myself too (and had help from friends). For example the tap between the sink and the hot plate with a tap that I can hold above the pan to fill it with water so no need to wheel around with a full pan on your lap http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif. Oh and the 'pullers?' on the cabinets were chosen 'cause they are easy to use with my closed hand. The height of the counter (= table?) is 75cm: the height of a regular table, only the sink is a bit higher because of it's depth.
Thanks for the compliments and John, Shaun, I'm flattered it gave you some ideas!

That's awesome! My parents are going to be re-doing their kitchen this summer but I won't be able to enjoy it because I'm moving soon.
Lookin good!

I have a question too...would the kitchen be easily used by someone standing as well? Or would it be too low. We are going to remodel our kitchen soon and I would like to make it easier for my hubby to use it (he does fairly well but somethings are just out of reach) but I am the primary cook. I am trying to figure out what mods could be made.
It is a beautiful kitchen btw, lol, ours is pink southwestern style...its...funky.

I have an electic kitchen so I can put the capinets, the kitchen unit and the sink up and down so everybody can use it.

Hi Moody, I think the island, with the hot plate and the sink would be too low for a standing person to use. It's only table-height: 75cm. Although if you're small it might be not too uncomfortable... The oven, microwave and dishwasher at about 75cm, I think, are just as practical.
The electric kitchen, WFE mentioned, might be a better solution if you both want to use the kitchen. Don't know if you know the system; here are some examples:

i won't be getting a new kitchen for a long time but when i'm ready i hope these pics will be archived somewhere so i can use them as reference.
thanks so much for posting them http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/cool.gif

Absolutely Gorgeous!!! I just saw an episode of Queer eye for the straight Guy, and they redid a home for a Military man injured in Iraq who's now a Para. Very similar to yours. I love the spaciousness.

Very nice ...
Are these modular units/pieces? Manufacture?
Floor? Slate?
Is this an apartment/condo or home resident?
What is the size of your kitchen?
Again, very nice!

OMG! That is gorgeous! It is a kitchen I dream about. Enjoy it, it really is beautiful.
Thanks again for all the compliments. I've been living here for 4 years now and wouldn't change a thing.
Titanium4mtion, this is a house I built in 2004/2005. The kitchen is manufactured and is 5,65 meters x 3,70 meters. The floor are tiles (rock? slate?) 60cm x 60cm.
I'll add some pics of the kitchen now...

Hi Macska,
Here are some pics of living and eating room. I'll make soms pics of the bathroom etc.. later. Hope it will give you some ideas. My desk is normally standing against the outside wall, but in winter, I place it next to the fireplace.
