1978 Jeep Sitting on 35" tires with a 4" Suspension lift. I have been getting in and out from my wheelchair (Quickie Ti) for the past year. I have just recently had a Lift made to pick me up and put me in the Jeep. I have more pics to come, I just have to get them from the man that installed the lift. This week I plan to get more pics of me getting in and out (t-11) of the jeep.

On the back end is an ordinary 3 bike, bike rack. When I have some one with me they can place my Quickie Ti (by the axle)on the bike rack. I take the clothe gards off and roho and put them inside the jeep. Only bad thing about the bike rack is I took the jeep to the woods this past weekend and well lets just say it took as long to clean the wheel chair as it did the jeep. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

BTW, how in the hell do you swing 35" with only 4" of lift?? i run 33" and i get tire rub when my suspension is flexed hard.

35s will run fine w/ a 4" suspension lift + a 1" body lift. If you're rubbing your 33s, you need to adjust your bumpstops.
mike... looks sweet! that's one heck of a transfer.

I just got the jeep back this past friday. It was in the shop for a week getting the lift put in. Im waiting on the pics, he took step by step pics. Not the best pic of it but just in front of the driver tire is the lift. I put a seat in it and it will lift me up to the seat. then I take the seat out and put a cap in the lift and drive away. I need to get the pics so you can see what I mean. This weekend I plan on doing a step by step like Jesse did. It's been in the shop since early may. I put a new vor tec 350 in it bolted up to a 400 turbo trans and a dana 20 transfer case. If you know your jeeps you would know that the cj-5 never came with an automatic. The automatic was introduced in the cj-7. The cj-7 in 10" longer than the cj-5.

Jesse I don't seem to have any probs with tire rub http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif Scott, I think I might have transfered about 12 times by my self from my chair to the jeep seat. I have to get the measurements again but I think my chair with the roho sits at 21" and the top of the jeep seat was at 38" or so. I had a strap that came off the roll bar and I would grab it and then just pull myself up. It was a bitch to get in that way. This lift cost just at 6000.00. Thank god for insurance.

This was taken back in October I think, but it's just a regular set of hand controls and the black knob you see there to the left is a knob to apply the emergency brake. I have yet to use it (emergency brake).

Jesse, when you get ready to do yours let me know if you need any pics. You will defiantly need a full roll bar, it's a must. Scott, how is your jeep coming along?

cool stuff Mike; I'm interested to see how your lift works. For a '78, you've got a rig in great shape... the new V8 will be awesome. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
My jeep is coming along, slowly but surely. I had a couple problems with the [idiot] dealer I bought my suspension & swaybar through, and that slowed things down a bit. I was hoping it'd all be finished sometime early August, but it doesn't look like that'll happen. I've got one more shipment of parts coming in, and then the assembly will move along pretty rapidly.
Because my injury is just a tiny bit higher than yours (haha... I'm C6/7 http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif), there are several little details I gotta figure out that may cause a few hangups, but I'm anticipating it being finished later this month.

I'm not sure of what we put back in there. We gutted the both axle's about a 2 years ago. All new gears, and I have a heave duty Front and rear drive shafts the back drive shaft is set up with a CV Joint. No drive line vibration at all. It has all new BDS suspension. LOL I can come to a stop light and just crank down on it and the front end wants to come off the ground. If I had some different gearing in the back I could pop a wheelie..... http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif I have detroit lockers. All that was put in new back in 02. There isn't much that isn't new. Going to put a Rhino lining this fall. Then next spring or so I will build my bumpers.

Hey, Mike, just wanted to let you know how sweet your jeep is. I have a 1982 cj7 of my own, but ever since my injury, I have not been able to drive it, because of it being stick shift and me being c5/6 quad. Any suggestions on where to find a automatic tranny. I would really like to get back out there on the hills again.Im out in Denver,Co. Thanks

Javi, if it's as easy as to put an automatic in your jeep you can go to a tranny shop or even a junk yard or something to that affect and get you a transmission. Do you have v8? There several different tranys that will bolt up to your v8 engine like a turbo 300 or 400.

They told me that I need to just sell this jeep and go on my way "you will never drive that thing again". Well, all I have to say about that is if there is a will there is a way. Yeah, im a low para but I have some quad buddies that ride all sorts of atv's as well.

Guys don't sell your jeeps just yet. My Lift should be done next week! Get your auto tranny in and let me get them set up to build them. You will need your roll bars. There's no lifting or transfering! Any Quad who has arm movement will be able to run it. It will be the cheapest and best lift out there! Get ready!

How's this work? No transferring? The user stays in his/her wheelchair seat?

What I meant was no physical lifting or transfering. You don't stay in the chair.

I love it! I had a truck b4 injury.... got rid of it because I could no longer manage to get in and out. My hubby just got a huge 4x4 that I can't enjoy with him. :-( I look forward to seeing more photos.
