MARK YOUR CALENDAR

I've volunteered to help organize a one of a kind gathering of individuals with SCI and friends.

The gathering will be in Washington, DC, May 9-11, 2005. It'll be at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel, http://marriott.com/property/propertyPage.mi?marshaCode=WASSH

Additional information will be posted at http://www.spinalcord.org/

Please answer this question.

-What activities, topics and people need to be included/involved to make this a one of a kind gathering?-

If you'd like to be part of a potential attendee, time limited listserv (receive regular updates, provide feedback, etc.), please respond to this message. Also, please share this message.

Thanks,

Count us in! Question for Tim - are you looking for this to be a purely social gathering, or educational, both??? We would come for either. Are you looking for volunteers to lead sessions, etc? Post more info on what you're thinking about and I'll post more on what we'd be interested in, but we're up for anything really!

p.s. Make it kid friendly, we'd bring our 4 year old

Zillazangel, to my knowledge it's both a social gathering showing SCI support, activism, as well as educational. Please use the link or contact Mark at the Shepherd Center to offer any advice or assistance you may have in mind.

Wow, I just checked the room rates, a little pricey. Does it matter where we stay?

The Mayflower IS very expensive. One good thing is that is it right on the Metro (red line) so you could stay someplace cheaper out in the 'burbs and get there for any events quite readily.

I have decided to go ahead with a walk-a-thon type of event this summer. If I can raise any amount of money towards SCI Research and raise some much needed media attention to 'our' plight, then I believe this will help create a 'wave' that will only grow. We need to start helping ourselves and getting loud. Remember, 'Tis the squeaky wheel that gets the grease'. It will be carnivalistic, kid orientated as well as educational. I will post more on the details of this event as they begin to define. Occassionly, check for details on my site as I am going to create a 'specific page' dedicated to the 'walk'. I have a thousand ideas in my head. Can't wait to get started.
