Is it actually possible to live by them? Myself im afraid from the age of 15 to 25 i used them more like a ''to do'' list. Some friends and i were sittin, talkin about this the other night and no one could claim to have abided by them. Can anybody make the claim to have abided by them?
''Shoot the protester ya cant stop the protest.Murder the rebel ya cant stop the rebellion''..
that's what confession/ prayer is for LoL to ask for forgiveness... then you are a-okay! Then back to your old havok ways til the next session of confession! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif LOL
Honestly, I find the whole thing to be silly! But to answer your question, No it's not possible for anyone to obey them all. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Obey them all? I've broken them all! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/frown.gif http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
Then you make peace with yourself, your god, and whomever you've hurt ... and move on, wiser hopefully. But don't beat yourself up if/when you break them all again. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
Shaun, I'm so impressed with this question! Deep thoughts about theology and morality are definitely required for being a moderator. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif

What's the point of trying to live them, if you can just say "i'm sorry" at the end and get in anyway?

I dont think it says anything about murder does it? Doesnt it just say ''thow shalt not kill'' why assume it means murder! Cant it just as easily be an MVA? what about a soldier at war? is he a murderer?

Nate, you caught that before I had a chance to edit my first post. I remembered the killing commandment while I was leaving town and thought, OMG! what are people going to think! http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif
No, never murdered or killed a person or animal. House plants? Thousands. And some of my culinary disasters have been considered attempted murder.
So I guess I can't say I've broken them all. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
Shaun's correct. Big difference between killing and murder.

Does murder count if you only "thought about it" re: Jimmy Carter?

The original 10 commandments said "thou shalt not murder" not kill. The Amish, Mennonites and Quakers use a different list and so use "kill" and that one word keeps them from military service outside of non-combatant jobs.
If many newly created Americans adherred to thou shall not dishonor their mother or father we would all be stoned (dead by rocks not smoking).
And I often wonder why the supposed truly only "God" is jealous of anyone else...
Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow."

Heres the scenario,
After a night of 10cent chicken wings and few pints of beer an arguement breaks out in a local pub.A fight breaks out in the parking lot between a couple of decent guys who really have no serious faults other than a full blown hate on for each other. It's a hell of a fight lots blows, lots of blood like i said ''full blown hate on''.One delivers a solid shot knockin the other out cold! but on the way down he cracks is head open on a big ass trailer hitch! an hour later he's dead. What do you call the guy who delivered the ko punch? He meant to harm the other! he meant to fuck him up good! but he never really wanted to kill him!
''Shoot the protester ya cant stop the protest.Murder the rebel ya cant stop the rebellion''..

the hate thing?? I don't know I never have hated anyone but alot of times I do not like what they do! my problem is I have had a very hard time to forgive the person who done this to me, and I still have not been able to do that. But to me, just my opinion is whatever situation we find oursleves in we have to take responsibilities for what-ever action's we have taken. I'm not the judge so I can't say what you would call him but I really beleive if we ask for forgivness from the heart it will be forgiven from us. but for me not being able to do what I can't right now, I find myself in the same boat, not with the law, but from the higher, but no I don't think we can all abide and never break not anyone of them. It's just human nature.

Follow the Golden Rule...
"Do unto others as you'd have done to you."
Short. Sweet. Simple.
What a wonderful world it would be if we all practiced this.

if i'm remembering correctly, the commandment 'thou shallt not kill' the original hebrew word commonly translated 'kill' or 'murder' is more accuratly translated 'slay with malice'. yes my fellow crips, good ol' cspine used to be a bible thumper. thump thump thump!

If we could obey them all there would be no need for them in the first place. http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/eek.gif

I am a not believer but I have been learning that much in school.
It is impossible to make it. Have you read the explaination from Luther? He explain all of the commandments and I have broken all of them.

So we are all going to hell if our generations behind did not obey them. I know for sure my mother did not http://sci.rutgers.edu/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif

Shaun, you used the words "live by" and "abide" regarding the Ten Commandments. Both words would suggest using the big 10 as a guide or as boundaries in our lives. I believe there are certain degrees of "residing within" the commandments, that it's not black and white, cut and dried. I had stated in my original post that I'd broken them all. Well, to a certain degree, I have. I've murdered people's reputations by repeating gossip. I've stolen from my employer when I took an hour and 15 minutes for lunch. I've worshipped other gods when I've allowed pride, lust and greed for "worldly wares" guide my heart and mind, instead of "providence."
I think it boils down to an issue of degree.

yea shaun, i learned some of my most valuable lessons in the house of god. here are 5 examples.
1)you can give AND recieve at the same time.
2)think long and hard durring the sermon, and yell 'halleluja!' durring the climax.
3)when praying with the pastors daughter, every time is the first time.
4)always wear a raincoat when praying with the pastors daughter.
5)church girls can pray on their knees for hours.
