NeoTherapeutics receives patent for serotonin-like compounds
Neuropathic pain, obesity, anxiety and depression are potential targets for
the new technology platform
IRVINE, Calif., October 18, 2001 - NeoTherapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: NEOT)
announced today that the Company has been issued U.S. Patent No. 6,303,617
entitled "Novel Serotonin-Like 9-Substituted Hypoxanthine and Methods of
Use". The new patent covers additional hypoxanthine-based compounds that
have serotonin-like characteristics and may have applications for diseases
such as anxiety, depression, obesity and neuropathic pain. To date, in the
United States, NeoTherapeutics has been issued seven patents. Two
additional patents have been allowed and should be issued within the next
six months, and 14 patent applications are pending at this time.
