In a previous topic you had told someone that a new study showed that neurontin and dextromethorphan combined help neurologic pain. I showed my doctor and he wrote me a prescription for the dextromethorphan. I was already on neurontin. The problem is that it is a cough syrup and they only have it in elixer form and I cannot stand the taste. In case it works I was wondering if you know if it comes in a pill or capsule form.

cdues,

There are capsule forms of dextromethrophan. One has a tradename of DexAlone

It is also on the compounded formulary listing and can be prepared by compounded pharmacies. You should read, however, the poison control center descriptions of the drug and make sure that you understand the risks of the drug...

My doctor is currently trying me on Zyprexa and Klonopin (the Zyprexa is making me pish more, and the Klonopin is letting me sleep at night.) At some point, we likely will add an opiate to the mix. Should we also add dextromethorphan at that time? If so, how much dextro?

I am going to defer to Dr. Young on this one. Since it is an experimental protocol, I am not sure anyone knows for sure the recommended dosage, and it would be important to be very aware that mixing several different drugs can cause additional side effects that the drugs used alone do not cause.
